BERNARDSTON — After this year’s town election Monday, a new moderator will be named after the position was filled for decades by the same man.

The position was left vacant when D. William “Bill” Pratt died in March at the age of 74. Geoffrey Wilson of Dewey Street, is running unopposed for the one-year elected position.

“Bill Pratt was an institution in Bernardston,” Town Coordinator Hugh Campbell said, explaining that the Pratt served the town in many capacities. “There wasn’t much going on in Bernardston that Bill Pratt wasn’t involved in. He was a beloved figure in town.”

In all, there are 20 positions up for election, and 21 people vying for them. The only positions that are contested are for four three-year positions on the Board of Powers Institute Trustees. The challengers are incumbents Ingrid Wiemers Skiff of Hartwell Road, Robery Eddy of Eden Trail, Greta Shores of Church Street and caucus nominees Robert Messer of Parmenter Road and Kevin Snow of Hoe Shop Road.

The remaining positions are unopposed and are all three-year terms except one.
