Montague, March 29

5:20 a.m. — Officer out on Swamp Road with a suspicious male and vehicle, the male is walking around with a flashlight; officer then cleared after finding the male was the owner and operator, and is picking up cans on the side of the road.

9:03 a.m. — Reporting person advises of a road rage incident on Federal Street where the caller states that about 30 minutes ago, while she was pulling into her driveway, there was a blue Hyundai SUV vehicle on her tail; when she had pulled completely out of the roadway, the SUV sped past and then turned around, and the operator stopped in the road and started yelling at the reporting person; the reporting person’s father was also there, and the operator of the SUV was yelling at the father, saying, “you want to punch me?” The reporting person also noted there was a child in the back seat of the vehicle, but she didn’t see the license plate; the operator was described as a white male, late 40s to early 50s, graying salt and pepper hair, with glasses; she was advised this would be on record and to contact us with any further issues.

10:29 a.m. — Reporting person on Montague City Road advises of a person knocking on her door, and requesting to enter to check out her meters; the reporting person didn’t let the person in, and had asked for his identification and who he worked for; the male didn’t have any ID, and stated he was with a company for solar panels; the reporting person advised the male she was going to call the police, and the male quickly left toward Greenfield, in a dark blue Taurus; the male was described as heavyset, possibly in his 30s, short hair, last seen wearing a flimsy orange vest; she didn’t see anyone else, but the vehicle was parked across the road so she couldn’t see inside; she was advised this would be on record and if the male came back into the area to call back right away; officer advised of the soliciting.

2:53 p.m. — State police are en route to the station with one female from a motor vehicle stop based on probable cause; detective will meet them here; the person was placed into a cell, and then bail was set at $3,500, plus the fee; she was then taken to the house of correction; arrested was Amanda Leigh Gibson, 33, of Adams Road, Greenfield, charged with intimidating a witness. An officer at the Franklin County House of Correction called advising that they will be releasing the contraband found on the female to Montague Police Department, and they requested an officer to go to the house of correction to pick up the contraband. Officer en route.

3:44 p.m. — Reporting person advised that last week he came home to a broken window; today there were four children on the bike path throwing rocks on Canal Road, and the reporting person believes these are related; he stated the children were on their skateboards and he yelled at them, and they left the area toward the Discovery Center; he said one of them was wearing a red hat; the reporting person called back to say the vandalism that occurs at the old mill is upsetting to him, which is why he would like those children spoken to; officer spoke to the reporting person who couldn’t give any better description of the children involved in today’s incident, and the reporting person also didn’t report the broken window last week, and he didn’t witness who broke it.

9:32 p.m. — Report of leaves on fire on Federal Street on the side of the road, and the caller stated it is getting bigger, and they don’t have water to put it out with; the reporting person wasn’t certain exactly where on Federal Street it was, and stated she is north of Sirum’s Equipment; cell phone mapping gave an area, and Turners Falls Fire Department, and Shelburne Control was contacted to alert the Montague Center Fire Department, as this is close to the jurisdictional line; officer then on the scene and reports it appears to be all out at this time; fire units responded to check.

10:37 p.m. — Caller from the Rendezvous Bar on Third Street reports a customer is refusing to leave, but just after that, the male agreed to leave; the reporting person stated they were now all set, and he would call back if further assistance was needed.

Orange, March 29

8:20 a.m. — Motor vehicle stop on North Main Street, for an expired registration; the operator was able to renew the vehicle’s registration via a smartphone; verbal warning given for the violation.

11:11 a.m. — Caller reports she just got a call from someone claiming to be from the IRS and they were looking for money; she hung up on them; she was advised it was a scam.

1:25 p.m. — Station received a call of a backpack being found along the edge of the Millers River, with medication inside; the property was retrieved and attempts were made to contact the owner, but the item then had to be placed into property storage.

2:01 p.m. — Bus driver reports a known person was passing on a double solid line and speeding; the vehicle was last seen by the post officer; a cruiser was sent and checked the area, but the vehicle was gone on arrival; the plate number given comes back to being registered in Springfield.

3:05 p.m. — Reporting person came into the station to report that one of the tires to his car was slashed overnight; he states he has no enemies, but wanted the incident on record and for the area to be patrolled.

3:25 p.m. — Shelburne Control advised that the fire department is responding to Cottage Street for a furnace fire; officer sent and remained to assist the fire department.

4:16 p.m. — Caller from Second Street report getting a call from a female stating she heard rumors that a male might attempt to break into the reporting person’s residence; she was advised the area will be patrolled and if anything does happen, to call police immediately.

4:53 p.m. — Control took a report of a disturbance on Hamilton Avenue involving five or six people, and a rock being thrown; all was quiet on arrival of police, but found the disturbance was between two people, and one person had gone down the street to speak with one of the people regarding an issue with their kids, and this turned into a shouting match and name calling; all were advised to stay away from each other.

7:30 p.m. — Caller from East River Street left a message on the machine requesting a return call, and the officer spoke with the reporting person who explained how she received a call from the IRS saying they have a case against her; the reporting person was informed this was a scam and not to give any information.

Greenfield, March 30

12:22 a.m. — Disturbance reported on Franklin Street where the caller says a male and female are involved in a physical altercation; the caller says that she was out of a walk with her boyfriend when she saw a female run out of nowhere, and started screaming; the reporting person then stated a male came out of a house, and chased the female in the street; the caller advised the male and female were running in circles and she was unsure if either person had a weapon, and they were traveling in the direction toward CVS, but then said that the male and female were on High Street; officers located the reporting person at Franklin and Church streets; the female was intoxicated, and the male reporting person stated a female was cursing loudly and ran behind a building on Church Street, being followed by a male headed toward Maple Street, officers were unable to find anyone involved in any altercation.

9:22 a.m. — Caller reports people on her property yesterday surveying the property; the involved people stated they were from Eversource; the reporting person called Eversource, and they stated no; officer to call back, and spoke with the original caller who stated a white van with “Surveyor” written on the side of it was in the area; she was concerned; the people were working under the power lines, and she was advised of ongoing projects in the town involving power line upgrades.

10:15 a.m. — Reporting person walked into the station to report someone opened an electric company account using his name; officer to investigate, and the reporting person was advised to call the electric company to find out more; if fraud was involved, bring paperwork back to the officer.

11:14 a.m. — Disturbance reported on Silver Street at Arbor Drive, officers located the involved people and it was reported as being a nonviolent verbal argument; they were advised.

1:23 p.m. — Accident reported on South Shelburne Road, but no injuries reported, one vehicle involved, and the vehicle had to be towed; Medcare was requested for precautionary evaluation.

1:33 p.m. — Larceny was reported on Conway Street where the caller says his son’s bicycle was stolen between Sunday and today, a 2015 royal blue boy’s bike, Mongoose; pegs in front and back, but the brakes don’t work; it is in very good condition.

1:48 p.m. — Larceny reported from location about 100 yards behind Ruggeri’s Package Store on Deerfield Street, where the reporting person stated keys and a blue lighter were stolen from him at that location; following an investigation, that led to a Hope Street location, arrested was Albert R. Cavalear, 53, of Hope Street, Greenfield, charged with being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant.

1:51 p.m. — Disturbance reported at Green Fields Market on Main Street where the 911 call was transferred from state; caller reported to the state location of a dispute between himself and another male regarding inappropriate language; officers sent, and all was quiet on arrival; all those present reported seeing no problems.

7:41 p.m. — Report of a female who has barricaded herself into the bathroom at the Key Starr Program on Park Street; officer and Medcare on scene; the involved female was transported, voluntarily, by Medcare to Baystate Franklin Medical Center; the Key Starr program sent a worker to the emergency room for proper paperwork through Crisis Services there.

8:14 p.m. — Report of a wire in a tree, sparking, on Cooke Street at Washburn Avenue; fire command advises a primary line is into a tree and is arcing, and Eversource was requested to the scene; Eversource advised of a 10-minute response, and then was on scene.

8:21 p.m. — Disturbance reported at the Key Starr Program on Park Street, and an officer was requested to enter the second floor, and the officer states there was a minor mayhem on the second floor; people returning to the first floor; peace was restored for the whole house, and residents were in bed for the night.

8:32 p.m. — Despondent person reported on Abbott Street. she agreed to go voluntarily to Baystate Franklin Medical Center, and talk with someone from Crisis Services; Medcare transported her.

10:36 p.m. — Reporting person states they were at Cumberland Farms and her car wouldn’t start, and the male with her got aggravated, and started to scream at her; she was concerned about her safety; officers found an argument between acquaintances over an agreement involving money; they were separated prior to officer’s arrival, and were advised of options.

10:48 p.m. — Shoplifting reported at Stop and Shop on French King Highway where an officer spoke with the staff that advised they had been watching an employee suspected of theft, and the employee attempted to leave with about $75 worth of items before being stopped by Asset Protection personnel; the 33-year-old female will be summoned to court for shoplifting.

11:28 p.m. — Reporting person states that her friend texted her stating she should mix her ashes with her son’s; the reporting person states that the caller’s infant son died a few months ago, and she has been in a fragile state since, but this is the first time she has sent a message like this; she has made vague statements in the past of wishing she were dead; officer on scene and then transporting two people to the hospital, one for voluntary evaluation.

Montague, March 30

6:01 a.m. — Report of a suspicious person on Park Street where the female caller was on a walk with her dog, and reported a male in a hooded sweatshirt and a backpack was walking in and out of side yards of homes in the area; officer en route, and spoke with the reporting person, who was advised to contact the police station if further suspicious activity is seen.

12:16 p.m. — Shoplifting reported at Food City on Avenue A, that happened about one hour ago, and the person is no longer in the store but is on the surveillance tapes, and the subject reportedly stole several alcoholic beverages; officer investigating and the person will be summoned to court.

5 p.m. — Caller from Hillcrest Elementary School on Griswold Street requests an officer to remove the TV News truck from the property; the reporting person had already contacted their managers, with the same request, but he doesn’t believe it has moved yet; officer advised the trucks are not on school property; one is on Bulkley and the other is on Griswold Street.

5:12 p.m. — The reporting person advises there are about 30 bags of household trash leaning up against one of the buildings on Second Street; the reporting person stated there are no tags on the bags; officer called back to advise the caller of his options.

6 p.m. — A reporting person advising he can see what appears to be two or three kids on the roof of the red building at the old Railroad Salvage building, and they appear to be throwing things off the roof; the reporting person was concerned for their safety; he stated one child had a white T-shirt and the other had a gray shirt; unknown if a third one is there for sure; officer in the area, but nothing seen at this time.

7:10 p.m. — Caller very upset over an officer responding to his residence earlier today looking for him as a possible shoplifting suspect; the reporting person requested an officer respond immediately to his residence to speak with him as his mother is upset about this, and he has never stolen anything, ever; he was advised the officer will contact him when available, and the officer then called back.

9:33 p.m. — Caller from the Unity Park on First street requests an officer to the area of the skate park advising there were five or six people there threatening him; the reporting person stated they were threatening physical violence, but he had his German shepherd out there with him; officer out with the reporting person, but did speak with a group leaving the skate park on the way over; another officer spoke with the group leaving the park as well, officer then advising he spoke with the reporting person, and it sounds like the threats were mutual, the reporting person was advised if there are kids in the skate park causing trouble or harassing him, to call the police department first.

11:44 p.m. — Officer sent to assist Erving Police with service of a warrant, and then which has one person in custody. Montague Officer transporting one person.

Orange, March 30

6:20 a.m. — Caller from Mill Street reporting the railroad crossing arms are stuck down, and they are sending someone out for repair.

9:30 a.m. – Caller from West Myrtle Street would like to speak with an officer in regards to a drone (small remote flying machine) that followed her home; call returned but no answer, and a message was left.

3:45 p.m. – Caller from Red Brook Lane requesting an officer regarding her car being keyed five days ago; while an officer was on the scene, a male approached advising his truck was keyed this morning, by a known person; charges pending, and the 57-year-old male will be summoned to court for vandalizing property.

11:40 p.m. – While an officer was on patrol he checked on a vehicle parked in the lot of a business on Daniel Shay’s Highway; lights were on in the building, and no one appeared to be around, but then the officer located a female, who was working inside, and she stated she would be closing up soon.
