SHELBURNE — In 2018, Shelburne will be 250 years old, and those helping to organize special events for this “birthday” want a striking logo to appear on signs, banners, T-shirts, publications and memorabilia that celebrates this milestone anniversary.

A best-logo contest has started, with the winning logo to be used on all publicity. Also, the winner will receive a $250 cash prize.

What the contest judges are looking for is a logo “that is not just a pretty image, but also one that embodies the essence of Shelburne,” says a news statement. “The logo should remind people of how they feel about their town, it’s heritage and the area in which they live.”

The panel wants a logo that is: simple, distinct, able to be scaled to different sizes, memorable, versatile, relevant and timeless.

The quarter-millennial celebrations start in June, but a panel of local people will select the winner in early November. The design contest is open to all residents of the town, although those under age 18 must have a parent or guardian signature. The logo design must include the word “Shelburne” and the number “250.”

Entry forms are available at the Town Hall (Memorial Hall) or on the town’s website. All forms must be returned to Town Clerk/contest coordinator Joe Judd by 4 p.m. on Nov. 2. They can also be mailed to: Shelburne Town Clerk, 51 Bridge St., Shelburne MA, 01370, as long as they are received by Nov. 2. For more information, call Judd at 625-0300, ext. 3.
