Wake up, Greenfield

Greenfield, When are you going to wake up?? After reading the article in the Recorder this weekend about the town turning down a proposed Market Basket and Marshalls, I just continue to roll my eyes. Who decides that they cannot come to town? Why don’t the people who live here get to decide on this kind of project?

Have you been to Athol, Keene, and/or Hadley lately? That’s where we have to go to do the bulk of our shopping. Greenfield forces its average working folks to go elsewhere for reasonably priced items. It’s the same old, same old. How’s it working for you Greenfield? Who is coming to this town for anything? Maybe some people are coming here for a local restaurant, or maybe some others are shopping at BJ’s, but that’s about it.

You keep wanting the residents to give you more and more money. A new library, increased school budget etc., so why not allow major companies to come to town instead of taking more from all of us. We have the seventh highest tax rate in the Commonwealth – out of 351 cities/towns. I’m not an expert on how the town government works and all the red tape that goes along with it, but Greenfield seems to be so incredibly dysfunctional and backwards.
