Orange, March 17
8:50 a.m. — Officer observed an individual in a white van that was known to have an active warrant; traffic stop was conducted on Winter Street and a subject was placed under custody; arrested was Ryan M. O’Neill, 44, of Oxbow Road, Orange, on the default warrant.
9:40 a.m. — Traffic stop on East Main Street for an expired registration, and expired inspection sticker; the operator was then found to have a suspended license, and was taken into custody; arrested was Todd C. Bachelder, 45, of East Main Street, Orange, charged with operating with suspended license, expired inspection sticker and unregistered motor vehicle; the vehicle was towed.
2:40 p.m. — Received a call of a limb down across the roadway in area of Walnut Hill; officer removed the limb to the side of the road clear of the roadway, and a message was left for Orange Highway Department.
3:20 p.m. — Control advised the Fire Department is responding to North Main Street for report of a tree and wires down across the road; on officer’s arrival, two people were on scene removing the tree from the roadway; officer checked the area, and no electrical wires were involved.
5:43 p.m. — Unwanted person reported at Winter Street location from where Control got a call that two people are out front causing problems; officer responded and found them gone, but checked both locations, and spoke with a person about the situation, and to tell the two youths that they are not welcome at the Winter Street location.
8:24 p.m. — Accident with property damage on East River Street where Control reports one vehicle is over the embankment, and a white male was seen running from the vehicle, wearing a dark shirt and light pants, and was headed to the trailer park; the male was located near the entrance, but he wouldn’t comply, and was subsequently placed into custody; arrested was Matthew Paul Waite, 33, of East River Street, Orange, charged with operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation.
11:35 p.m. — Caller from Pleasant Street contacted dispatch to advise his 18-year-old son went for a walk and hasn’t returned; the son returned home before officer’s arrival.
Montague, March 18
3:07 p.m. — Larceny reported from Fourth Street where the reporting person was very hard to understand on the phone, but advised she suffers from grand mal seizures for which she takes medication; she said that two days ago she had an issue with a young female in her house, and has now noticed that her meds are missing; the reporting person has spoken to her therapist about this and was advised to contact the police department. officer was advised.
4:30 p.m. — Three calls for soliciting for NRG energy came in, one on Fifth Street, one on Fourth Street and one over the river in Gill; first two were checked by police here, but were unable to locate the males involved seeking information on owner’s electric bills; the one in Gill was advised we wouldn’t have knowledge of solicitors in Gill. Each call questions whether this was a scam.
5:03 p.m. — Caller from Turners Falls Road seeks an officer regarding a bag of medications she has lost or misplaced; she contacted her doctor who advised her he would need a police report to refill medications; officer to check. Report taken.
7:25 p.m. — Another call about soliciting on Third Street and having to do with NRG, and again the caller questioned if this was a scam, this time a female solicitor; officer located several people on Third Street, and one person appeared to be on the approval list, and provided a copy of a photo ID, which isn’t in the paperwork; investigation leads to arrest of Lindsay J. Casaganda, 34, of Worcester, on two default warrants.
Orange, March 18
10:10 a.m. — Control got a call from a store/station on Daniel Shay’s Highway stating they have a male detained for shoplifting; on arrival the management didn’t want to go forward with charges, but wanted him trespassed from the business; they were provided with the proper options.
10:43 a.m. — Suspicious activity reported at South Main Street location where an officer on patrol saw a person come out of the woods, and onto the athletic field of the Mahar School there, and walked around it without purpose; a check with the school revealed he is no longer a student, and shouldn’t be on the property; he left before he could be spoken with at this time.
11:15 a.m. — Control got a call from Mahar Regional School on South Main Street that the man who is walking around the property is unwanted, and they are looking to have him sent on his way; area was searched and he was found back in the area of his residence on West Myrtle Street.
1:19 p.m. — Report came into the station of an unwanted person reported on South Main Street, officers sent, and the involved left the property; report taken.
3:52 p.m. — Assault reported on East River Street from where Control reports a physical altercation between two females and a male; officer took a second walk in report to the station; officer responded and found it to be a male trying to convince one woman to voluntarily go to Athol Hospital for evaluation, and the other was also trying to get her to seek help; she was gone on arrival of police, and Athol police were advised as she lives in their town and was headed home.
8 p.m. — Fraud report came in a message left on the machine from the reporting person regarding the IRS scam, and the officer spoke with the woman caller and just wanted police aware and she didn’t provide any information, and knew it to be a scam.
8:01 p.m. — Fraud reported from Stone Road and again a message was left on the machine stating she received an IRS scam caller earlier, and wanted to report it; officer spoke with the reporting person who didn’t provide any pertinent info to the caller. She was advised she did good, and that the scam is going all over the country.
Montague, March 19
4:11 p.m. — Caller from O Street reports that when he arrived home about 35 minutes ago, he observed his girlfriend and her daughter loading his 57-inch flat screen TV into the daughter’s car; when the two of them saw him, they immediately got into their vehicle and left, but unknown direction of travel; the caller checked the residence and has discovered his safe is gone, which contained his important papers and a large amount of cash; BOLO issued; this is still under investigation.
4:48 p.m. — Officer contacted direct regarding a tree that may be a hazard on Montague City Road; officer says the tree is on the north side of this property, abutting the power lines and is right next to the sidewalk; the tree is split in the middle, and if it were to fall, it would hit the power lines; officer requested the DPW be advised; same done.
10:51 p.m. — Caller from Bridge Street in Millers Falls reports she is receiving text messages from a friend in that location, that stated the friend thinks someone is in her house; she stated to the reporting person that she had gotten into the shower, and when she came out, the rear door to the residence was open, along with a window or two that she didn’t leave open; caller stated the woman thought she heard noise in the house, and she is currently in her bedroom; there should be no one else in the house; officer checked the house with the occupant.
11:15 p.m. — Accident reported at Seventh and Park streets with multiple callers reporting a vehicle went into a guard rail; one caller reporting a person, thought to be a male, was seen running into the woods headed toward Scotties; no operator around when police arrived; keys were left in the seat; the registered owner said her son had the car; she said he had just called her to say he was at Hubies, and the vehicle was stolen from there; the son called and told police the car was parked in the lot near the Discovery Center and when he was about to leave, he realized the car was gone; investigation leads to arrest of Jeremiah Scott Wawrzyniak, 25, of Millers Falls Road, Turners Falls, charged with operating under the influence of liquor, second offense, leaving the scene of property damage, and marked lanes violation,
Orange March 19
1:40 a.m. — Noise complaint from Mechanic Street, where the caller says it’s coming from the apartment above; on officer’s arrival, all was quiet, and spoke to the upstairs tenant about the complaint.
6 a.m. — Officer checked on a vehicle idling in the municipal lot on Water Street, found to be a train enthusiast waiting for the train to pass through.
10:55 a.m. — Accident reported on East Main Street, two cars involved, in front of the Grrr Gear store, with no injuries reported, but fluids leaking; officers had one operator being summoned to court for operating with suspended license.
12:31 p.m. — Fraud reported on East River Street where the reporting person called to the station stating they got calls from the IRS stating they are pressing charges unless a payment was made; they were advised this was a scam, and that the incident will be on record.
4:30 p.m. — Report from East River Street of a large bird that crashed into the ground, and died; officer identified the bird as a partridge, but no sign of a gunshot wound.
Greenfield, March 20
12:30 a.m. — Officer making a traffic stop at Colrain Street and Riverside Drive where the bicyclist was stopped for no white light in front and no red reflector; the cyclist was advised on the law. Eight more traffic stops listed between this time and 2:09 a.m.
2:09 a.m. — Traffic stop on the Mohawk Trail near the Longview Tower where the stop was made for defective equipment and drifting over the fog line and center yellow line; found the operator wasn’t under the influence, but was charged with possession of a Class A drug substance; front seat passenger was placed under arrest on two warrants and possession of a Class B drug substance; those arrested were Benjamin Neal, 49, of Hyde Park for possession of a Class B drug, subsequent offence, and two warrants; Karina Graham, 23, of Shirley possession of a Class B drug, and Amara Pratt, 45 of Pittsfield, possession of a Class A drug.
3:03 a.m. — Officers first at the Winslow Building on Wells Street and then on Pleasant Street to serve a warrant; officer saw the subject get into a car, and followed it to Pleasant Street location; arrested was Brandon L. Dickinson, 31, of Wells Street, Greenfield, on two warrants.
2:44 p.m. — Report of an overdose on Petty Plain Road where the call was transferred to Medcare; Fire Department and police sent; Medcare has the patient, and officer may clear; the subject refused treatment, and was made aware of the consequences; services rendered.
3:26 p.m. — Disturbance reported at Wells and Arch streets where a caller, walking down the street, reports seeing a male and female pushing and shoving each other, officers sent, and found it to be a verbal argument; situation investigated.
4:06 p.m. — Malicious destruction of property, reported on Verde Drive where the caller states sometime over the last weekend, someone shot a BB through her child’s second-story window; officer checked the neighborhood and spoke with neighbors, but no one saw or heard anything suspicious; report taken.
5:47 p.m. — Larceny reported from Oak Courts, where an officer was approached by a child who said his bike was stolen from in front of his apartment sometime this morning; officer made contact with the boy’s mother who confirmed the bike was missing; officer made contact with a juvenile neighbor and his parents, and eventually that led the officer to the bike, which was found in an apartment complex dumpster; the juvenile claims two other children took the bike and threw it in the dumpster in retaliation for an earlier event; officer will be following up with the other two juveniles as there was no answer at their door at this time.
6:56 p.m. — Caller from Pierce Street reported some people in his home was trying to rob him and were going through his pockets; while trying to obtain additional information the line was disconnected; on call back the male advised the assailants had left on foot, but unknown direction; nothing taken, no weapons, and caller was unable to provide a description, other than “about three people.” A female in the group then came on the line advising that the caller is very intoxicated and hallucinating; officer now on scene and spoke with the care taker, who advised the reporting person called 911 as he was hallucinating, stating he was being robbed; the reporting person was known for taking medications, and is believed to have not taken any today; no crime found, and all appears to be in order.
8:31 p.m. — Report of an unwanted person at an Abbott Street location; officers sent, and found it to be a roommate dispute over a cat; determined not to be a police matter, and they were advised of options.
11:15 p.m. — The reporting person called the business line crying and stating that she has been arguing with her husband and he kicked her out of the house; she states she left and went to this Cumberland Farms on Federal Street to sit and have a coffee, but they kicked her out for loitering and she now has no where to go; when she was advised that we could send an officer who could advise her of options, she stated she no longer needed help, and then hung up; the officer spoke to the reporting person and she declined assistance and wasn’t interested in a 209A; the female reports she has been riding her bike around for an hour because she needs a break from her husband, whom she indicates is verbally abusive; she reported the clerk at Cumberland Farms asked her to leave even though she bought a coffee; the clerk indicated the female has been hanging around the store, acting strangely for over an hour, and it was making him nervous; the reporting female was advised of other locations she can go to let things defuse at home; she denies physical abuse, and doesn’t want an abuse prevention order.
Montague, March 20
4:28 p.m. — Accident with property damage reported at Avenue A and Seventh Street, two vehicles involved, but no injuries reported, and they are still in traffic; tow truck requested, but then canceled, as the officer is going to allow one vehicle to drive home, with the officer following; later a woman stopped at the station to give her contact information and advised she witnessed the accident; report taken.
6:04 p.m. — Word that residents in the Patch are reporting the annex building of the old Railroad Salvage Building is unsecured and the door is open and people have been going in and out of the building; officer responded and attempted to contact the DPW, but no answer; a DPW employee was contacted and officer advised the clasp was ripped off the door at the building involved and the officers are unable to secure it; he will have it taken care of tomorrow.
6:21 p.m. — Suspicious activity reported at the Connecticut River Liquor and Wine on Avenue A advises a younger looking white female, blonde, with black pants and a blue shirt, came into the store attempting to buy cigarettes; she was turned down due to having no ID, and the clerk states that several customers came in advising that the same female was approaching customers asking them to buy for her; officer checked the area, but unable to locate the female.
Orange, March 20
10:35 a.m. — Control advised of a reporting person requesting an officer respond to Cheney Street for a dispute he is having with an individual that owes him money; prior to arrival of officer, dispatch got a second call from the female involved, and on arrival, the officer spoke with both people; the original reporting person was advised to seek relief, through small claims court, for the money he let the female borrow.
4:45 p.m. — Control reports ATVs being ridden up and down Royalston Road and doing “doughnuts”; officer spoke with the residence and advised them of the complaint and advised them to stay off the roadway; no operation witnessed.
5:44 p.m. — Officer came upon a disabled vehicle and stood by while the operator changed a tire.
6:06 p.m. — Control reports Orange Fire Department is responding to West River Street for a smoke alarm; officer also sent and found to be from burnt food.
11:13 p.m. — Caller from Bacon Street reports a female there is intoxicated and is disrupting the household, and the caller would like her removed; officers located the subject who was highly intoxicated and made arrangements for her to stay somewhere else for the night; she was given a ride to another Bacon Street location and left with a friend who agreed to take her in.
Greenfield, March 21
12:58 a.m. — Officer speaking to two people sitting in front of Antonio’s Pizza on Main Street with a blanket; found they had too much to drink and will be driven home by a friend.
1:43 a.m. — Traffic stop on the Mohawk Trail just past Home Depot; investigation leads to arrest of Intha Lepkham, 23, of Shelburne Line Road, Colrain, on a warrant.
2:03 a.m. — Report of a disturbance on Bernardston Road where the caller says his neighbors are yelling and slamming doors; state police contacted and responding to assist; officers met with the female outside of the location and she expressed her immense displeasure with police response to her home; she went on a tirade about her intoxicated neighbor, who continues to call police on her and her husband; the female states she and her husband are having a good evening, watching and dancing to a television show; officers also spoke with her husband, who was calm and cooperative, and also denies any arguments of any kind at this location tonight.
