The first doubles tandem of Anna Zera and Penelope Hosley rallied from a 4-1 deficit in the opening set to capture the match-clinching point for Frontier Regional School on Thursday. The duo came charging back for a 7-5, 6-2 win over Greenfield High School’s Alyssa Garvin and Ana-Maria Blagadarenco, helping the Red Hawks earn a 3-2 victory in a Tri-County League North Division girls’ tennis match in South Deerfield.

Frontier (3-1, 2-1 TCL) also received victories at first singles and third singles on the afternoon. Celia Speth was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at No. 1 in a very good match against Greenfield’s Jenna Silk, while Frontier’s Tori Bowen captured a 6-0, 6-1 win over Leah Bosco at No. 3.

The Wave (0-3, 0-3) picked up a win at second singles, where Lilya Georgista was a 6-0, 6-1 winner over Morgan Farrick of Frontier. The Greenfield second doubles tandem of Katherine Fortin and Ngawang Tridytsang picked up a lengthy win over Frontier’s Ashley Lavasseaur and Mary Laurens, 4-6, 7-6 (7-3), 10-7.

Frontier will host Mohawk Trail Regional High School in another Tri-County League North contest today.

Chicopee Comp 3, Turners Falls 2 — The deciding point came at first doubles, where host Chicopee Comprehensive High School captured a 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory to snag a 3-2 win over Turners Falls High School in a Tri-County League North girls’ tennis match on Thursday.

The Turners tandem of Amber Taylor and Carlie Kretchmar dropped the decision to the Colts (5-1, 4-0 TCL).

Turners’ Alysha Wozniak was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 1 singles for the Powertown, which fell to 1-3 overall (1-1 TCL).

Hailey Trott also won a point for Turners against Comp, as the senior was a 6-4, 6-3 winner at third singles.

Turners is right back in action with a home match against Belchertown High School today.

Boys’ tennis

Turners 5, Greenfield 0 — Visiting Turners Falls High School dropped just 10 games total, sweeping rival Greenfield High School, 5-0, in a Tri-County League boys’ tennis contest Thursday at the Davis Street Tennis Courts.

Jimmy Vaughn set the tone with a 6-3, 6-0 win at first singles for Turners (5-2, 3-1 TCL) over Greenfield’s Victor Ivanchev, while Ricky Craver followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles against Brandon Siow of Greenfield.

Freshman Brian Poirier made for a clean sweep at singles for the Powertown as he dispatched Aaron Do for a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3.

Second doubles was forfeited by Greenfield (1-4, 1-3), while the Turners tandem of Jovanni Ruggiano and Nick Morin captured a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles against Greenfield’s Connor Pedigree and Kevin Gifford.

Greenfield hosts Westfield High School in an independent match today, while Turners will host Renaissance School on Monday.

Boys’ track & field

Frontier 100, Pioneer 45 — Frontier won all but one event on the track on Thursday afternoon and earned a 100-45 win over Pioneer Valley Regional School in an Intercounty League boys’ track & field meet in South Deerfield.

Phaelon Koski swept the hurdles for the Red Hawks with a time of 19.1 seconds in the 110-meter highs, and a time of 66 seconds in the 400 intermediates. Alex Sharp did his part in the distance events, winning both the mile (4:50.2) and the 2-mile (10:53.7). Zach Hamilton won the 200 for Frontier in 25 seconds, Ewan Bennett captured the 400 in 57.7 seconds, and Jake Meier won the 800 in 2:14.2.

Frontier also swept the relays. Hamilton, Aaron Landry, Josiah Murry and Luay Helali won the 4 x 100 in 48.6 seconds, while Ben Litskoski, Bennett, Meier and Andy Paul won the 4 x 400 in 4:05.

While Frontier dominated on the track, the Panthers flexed their muscle in the field where they won all but one event. The lone Frontier came in the high jump where Litskoski won at 5-4.

Scott McDonough had a big day for Pioneer with three victories. McDonough won the long jump (18 feet, 2¼ inches), triple jump (38-11) and 100 meter dash (12.1 seconds). Pioneer also swept the throws. Andrew Pratt won the discus (115-2), Wyatt Keith won the javelin (117-0), and A.J. Wilson won the shot put (37-10½). Jacob Kelton added a win in the pole vault (10-6).

Girls’ track & field

Frontier 121, Belchertown 24 — Seventh-grader Lilah Evans won a pair of events on the track and Frontier cruised past Belchertown, 121-24, in a Suburban League girls’ track & field meet Thursday in Belchertown.

Evans won the 100 in 13.9 seconds and the 200 in 28.5 seconds. She also joined Kimani Topolski-Burgess, Alicia Hancock and Lisa Portier to win the 4 x 100 relay in 54 seconds.

The Red Hawks won all but one event on the track. Marisela Ackerman captured the 400 (58.4), Greyson Young won both the 800 (2:53.6) and the mile (6:31.6), and Emily Laus won the 2-mile (15:04). Carleigh Clark captured the 400 low hurdles in 83.2 seconds. Frontier did well in the field as well, winning all but two events. Jaime Byrne paced the team in the field with a pair of wins as she took first in the shot put (27-11) and the pole vault (8-6). Portier captured the triple jump (29-2¾), Olivia Vecellio won the discus (89-10), and Reilly Isler won the javelin (74-2).

Boys’ volleyball

East Longmeadow 3, Athol 0 — Nick Cafaro had seven kills and 14 digs to lead East Longmeadow High School to a 25-15, 25-13, 25-20 win over Athol High School Thursday in a PVIAC East Division boys’ volleyball match in East Longmeadow.

Athol (5-7, 4-2 East) outside hitter Josh Herk paced his team’s offensive attack with 10 kills, and he added 14 digs on the defensive end.

Justin Blake was the only other Red Raider to record multiple kills, as he tallied four on the night. Blake also tied Herk with 14 digs for tops on the squad.

Freshman Colby Soltysik dished out 12 assists to go with five digs, while Dustin Aikey (eight digs) and Hudson Carlson (seven digs) contributed on the defensive side of things.
