The line chart shows the long-awaited peak of the omicron variant in Franklin County as cases began to fall for the first time since Nov. 7, according to data from the state Department of Public Health.
These two weeks saw 1,865 people test positive for the virus, with Greenfield once again leading the region with 658 cases. Athol follows behind with 426 cases, while Montague and Orange’s caseloads continue to decrease with 205 and 299 cases, respectively.
Although cases have started to decrease across the region, 11 people died over the two-week period due to the virus, which is the most deaths registered since Dec. 27, 2020.

■CIC Health at Greenfield Community College, 1 College Drive, Greenfield, MA 01301. Website: cic-health.com/stopthespread. Alternatively, call 877-280-2937 or email support@cic-health.com to make an appointment. Unscheduled visits are available, though registration is required on site. Testing instructions are available in English and Spanish.
■Walgreens at 5 Pierce St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Appointments are needed. Those looking to sign up must do so either at walgreens.com or using the Walgreens app.
■Baystate’s testing center, 33 Riddell St., Greenfield, MA 01301. Open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon. Call 413-795-8378 to make an appointment. A physician’s referral is required.
