Dennis N. Churchill

Greenfield, MA – Dennis Nelson Churchill, 76, passed away on September 26th, 2026, as he lived peacefully, joyfully, and faithfully.

Dennis was born on January 13th, 1950, in Greenfield, MA, to the parents of Donald A. Churchill and Hazel M. Churchill of Buckland, MA. He was the third of four children, Donald, Brenda, and Daniel, whom he loved and stayed close to his entire life.

Dennis grew up in Shelburne Falls and kept his love for that area till his last day. Loving to spend any day he could just remembering the good times he had in childhood, and the fond memories of that time. He attended Crittenden Hill Elementary, Arms Academy, and was a part of the first graduating class of Mohawk Trail Regional High School. After high school, he attended Zion Bible Institute. Dennis began his career at Apex Apple Orchard in Shelburne Falls, MA, then became a postal carrier in South Deerfield, MA, where he served for 29 years, rarely missing a day because of his love for the town of South Deerfield and the community he served.

Dennis is best remembered for his unwavering commitment to his faith in Jesus Christ and lived his life in such a way that all he did was a reflection of that commitment. His wife Janet of 47 years shared this faith, and they together impacted many lives in innumerable ways. He loved being outdoors, whether it was long walks, biking, hunting, sitting by a campfire or just being “invigorated” by the cool air on his face. His time was spent with his family, his many dogs, and his church family of Living Waters, of which he was a member all his life.

In death, he is preceded by his parents, sister, and is survived by his wife, Janet Churchill, children Heath Churchill and his wife Cassandra; Tammy Penfield and her husband Jason; Ralph Jelley and his wife Vicky; and Tara Danielson and her husband Steve; his brothers Donald Churchill; and Daniel Churchill and his wife Meg; as well as his nine grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Dennis was a guiding light to his family and a true reflection of a life lived in Christ, and we are all blessed beyond measure to have had him. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, bugga, and friend to those who knew and loved him. We will miss him all of our lasting days.

A celebration of life will be held at Living Waters Church, 450 Davis St., Greenfield, MA, on Saturday, November 14th at 2 p.m. Please join us for fellowship, refreshments, and the memory of a life well lived.
