Comedy Night fundraiser aims to curb food insecurity
LUDLOW — To help address food insecurity, Feed the Kids Project will host a Comedy Night fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 16, at the Ludlow Country Club. The event will benefit organizations such as Square One, the Holyoke Weekend Backpack Program, Pioneer Valley Power Packs, the Franklin County Technical School Food Pantry and Team No Kid Hungry, helping provide meals and food assistance to children across western Massachusetts.
“We know there are children in our communities who rely on these programs to help put food on the table,” Frederick Kadushin, co-chair of Feed the Kids Project, said in a statement. “Comedy Night is a chance for people to enjoy a great evening while making a real difference in the lives of kids in our community.”
Organizers are inviting businesses and community members to support the fundraiser through sponsorships, raffle and auction donations, or by attending the event. Sponsorship opportunities include a VIP package for 10 guests, website and social media recognition, reserved table packages for groups and a corporate sponsor package. Individual tickets are $45, and include dinner and the comedy show.
The evening will feature entertainment from FunnyRaising Comedy Shows, with doors opening at 6 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the show beginning at 8 p.m.
“Every donated item, sponsorship and ticket purchased helps support children who might otherwise go without,” Kadushin said. “We’re asking the community to help us spread the word and join us for a fun night that will have a lasting impact.”

Order of the Eastern Star members volunteer at Habitat for Humanity build sites
PELHAM — Nearly 50 members of the Massachusetts Order of the Eastern Star partnered with Habitat for Humanity for a multi-site Team Build Day on Saturday, Aug. 29.
Order of the Eastern Star members, along with those from the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, volunteered at four Habitat for Humanity project sites as part of a yearlong effort to support Habitat for Humanity. The volunteer sites are as follows:
- Concord — Greater Lowell Habitat.
- Abington — South Shore Habitat.
- Ashland — MetroWest/Greater Worcester Habitat.
- Pelham — Franklin Hampshire Habitat.
The Order of the Eastern Star is a fraternal organization for both women and men. Each year, the Massachusetts Order of the Eastern Star elects a worthy grand matron (state president) and worthy grand patron (co-president), who lead the organization statewide. One of their responsibilities is to choose a charity to support through fundraising and other efforts. This year, Ruth Jones, worthy grand matron, and R. Todd McDuffie, worthy grand patron, chose Habitat for Humanity, a cause close to both of them.
Across the state, the Order of the Eastern Star members gathered early in the morning, and with the Habitat site managers, performed a variety of duties from framing a house, mixing concrete, pouring pylons for a porch, framing an outside deck, painting inside and outside the homes, and organizing the job sites for the Habitat team.
Five Franklin County students named to HCC dean’s list
HOLYOKE — The following Franklin County students were named to the dean’s list at Holyoke Community College for the summer term:
Jamie Lynn Chase of Buckland, Ella May Guidaboni of Colrain, Nicole Keir of Greenfield, Terri Nicole Lindsey of South Deerfield and Brooklee Alexis Pierce of Whately.
A student is placed on the dean’s list if their grade point average is 3.2 or higher.
