Helen Miecznikowski

TERRYVILLE, CT – Helen Viola (Zajac) Miecznikowski, 84, a native of Greenfield, MA, widow of Ronald Miecznikowski, died on Thursday (August 13, 2026) at the Hospital of Central Connecticut, New Britain. Helen was born on October 22, 1941 in Greenfield, MA and was a daughter of the late Henry and Viola (Grabarz) Zajac. She was raised in South Deerfield, MA graduating from Frontier Regional High School. She then attended Northampton Commercial College. Having met her future husband, Ronald, at a polka dance, she came to Bristol upon their marriage in 1973. She worked in the personnel office for the City of Bristol for 42 years before retiring in 2013. She was an active parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, Bristol. As a member of the Ladies Guild, she volunteered her time making pierogis and golabki for the annual Dozynki festival and Babka bread before Easter. She enjoyed listening and dancing to polka music and gardening. Helen is survived by her loving son, John Miecznikowski of Fairfield; four siblings: Irene Dionne and husband, Roger of Hampton, Jane Patterson of Vero Beach, FL, Henry "Sonny" Zajac, Jr. of Greenfield, MA, and Carol Guertin and husband, Jeff of Framingham, MA; sister-in-law: Mary Ann Miecznikowski of Bristol; and several nieces and nephews. The family thanks the doctors and staff at UCONN Health Center and the Hospital of Central Connecticut for their kind and compassionate care of Helen. Funeral services will be held on Thursday (August 20, 2026) at 9 AM from Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave., Bristol, to St. Stanislaus Church, 510 West St., Bristol, for a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, 522 Terryville Ave., Bristol. Relatives and friends may call at Funk Funeral Home on Wednesday between 5 and 7 PM.
