Bernardston Historical Society Museum open Sunday
BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Historical Society Museum at 20 Church St. will be open Sunday, Aug. 2, from 1 to 4 p.m.
Included in the museum’s collection are household relics, vintage farm implements, historic photos, and the Lumen Nelson taxidermy collection of small mammals and birds. One of the museum rooms is set up as a 19th-century classroom. Attendants will be on hand to answer questions.
The museum is located on the second floor of the former Powers Institute building and is fully accessible. Ample parking is located at the rear of the building, with the lot entrance located on Library Street. Admission is free, though donations are appreciated.
‘Boomer Bloomers’ gardening club to meet
BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center’s “Boomer Bloomers” gardening club meets on the first Monday of the month at 10 a.m. to talk about gardens and share ideas. The next meeting is Monday, Aug. 3.
Ice cream social planned at pavilion
NORTHFIELD — An ice cream social is planned for the Stanley Wickey Pavilion behind Northfield Town Hall on Monday, Aug. 3, from 2 to 4 p.m.
Some seating will be available, but attendees should feel free to bring a lawn chair. Dogs are welcome but they must be kept on a leash.
Town clerk to discuss voting by mail
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center will welcome Town Clerk Amanda Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. for a discussion on voting by mail.
Attendees will learn how the process works, important deadlines, and how to
request and return a ballot with confidence before Election Day.
Barbecue chicken on menu for Aug. 12
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s monthly meal, set for Wednesday, Aug. 12, at 12:30 p.m., will feature barbecue chicken, tossed salad, corn bread and dessert.
The cost is $10 and space is limited. Attendees must RSVP by Aug. 5, by calling 413-498-2901, ext. 123.
Farmers market coupon booklets available
The Northfield Senior Center will distribute free farmers market coupon booklets, worth $25 per person, on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
The coupons are part of a program from the Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources, designed to help older adults get fresh fruits and vegetables and to help local farmers sell more produce.
Recipients of coupon booklets must be at least 60 years old, reside in Franklin County or the North Quabbin area, and earn $2,413 per month or less as an individual, or $3,261 per month or less as a couple, to qualify. For each additional family member, add $848 to the monthly income limit. Residents do not need to attend a senior center or participate in any other programs to be eligible.
Farmers market coupon booklets are also available at the Bernardston Senior Center, on Thursday, Aug. 6, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
The Bernardston income eligibility requirements are $2,461 per month or less as an individual or $3,337 per month or less as a couple. Add $876 per month for each additional household member. Recipients must be at least 60 years old.
Kiwanis Club holding annual dinner
BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Kiwanis Club will hold its annual dinner, serving ham, beans, coleslaw and dessert, on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Kiwanis Park, located at 835 Brattleboro Road (Route 5).
A meet and greet is scheduled from 5 to 6 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.

Acrylics workshop set for Aug. 11
BERNARDSTON — An Aug. 11 workshop will see up to 12 participants at the Bernardston Senior Center paint a mixed-media beach scene with acrylics on canvas, nestled in a 12-inch embroidery hoop and adorned with seashells, sand and other items.
The class will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Participants are welcome to bring their own brushes and palettes, as well as small memorabilia they collected on trips. Those who sign up should also bring a paint shirt.

Two painting sessions on August calendar
NORTHFIELD — Two painting sessions are planned at the Northfield Senior Center on Tuesdays, Aug. 11 and Aug. 25, both at 1 p.m.
The first session will be a sunflower painting class and the second will focus on abstract painting. The $5 fee includes a canvas board and paints. Space is limited to 10 participants per class and advance registration is required.
‘Express Yourself’ story slam set for Aug. 17
BERNARDSTON — Ginny Rockwood will present “Express Yourself,” the Bernardston Senior Center’s first story slam, on Monday, Aug. 17, at 3 p.m.
Rockwood will provide prompts, then participants will have three to five minutes to share something, such as a poem, a song or a personal story.
