The Greenfield Triathlon is set for its 42nd running on Sunday, August 2. It is New England’s longest-running triathlon.
“We’re excited to welcome participants to Greenfield to enjoy our annual triathlon,” Greenfield Mayor Virginia Desorgher said in a press release. “This long-running event takes advantage of our scenic beauty and natural spaces to benefit our fantastic Recreation Department, supporting their vital community programming.”
The triathlon features a route that winds through Greenfield’s back roads, passing the historic Eunice Williams Covered Bridge along with a swim in the Green River. Participants can choose between International (longer) and Sprint distances (shorter), available for both individual athletes and two or three-person teams. The swimming route for the international race is .63 miles, the biking route is 30.28 miles, and the running portion is 6.5 miles.
Nash’s Mill Road and Eunice Williams Road will be closed to accommodate the triathlon from 8 a.m. to noon. Road marshals and traffic control officers from the Greenfield Police Department will be at major intersections along the triathlon route. The Recreation Department seeks volunteers to help during the event. Interested individuals can sign up here.

John Simanski nailed an ace on the fifth hole using a pitching wedge from 145-yards out on July 25. Mark Castelhano, Jay Milkey and Chris Ferro witnessed the shot.

Running
Dan Mickus won the Northfield Road Race on July 23. Mickus covered the 5K race in 18 minutes, 34 seconds. William Thomas (20:25, Mike Townsley (20:34), Paul Hake (21:04), and Matt Bassett (22:50) rounded out the top five. Sorrel Hatch (ninth place overall) was the first female finisher (23:46). Twenty-three people participated.
