I have to agree with writer Barbara Bassingthwaite [“Frustrated with town leadership,” Recorder, June 18] and others with many of the items they stated in their opinion pieces.
When will the railroad bridge on North Main Street be fixed? I have heard rumors of August of this year. I thought it was condemned 40 years ago by MassDOT? We have to stop the wear and tear on streets that all the traffic has created. Water main breaks, rutted roads, with bike and walking issues. The town or MassDOT will have to fix all this if they put in a traffic circle at end of North Main and across to Mill Village Road due to too many fatalities at the cross over.
How about the railroad? Since the Selectboard wants more trains to come through town, how does that benefit us? They don’t even stop in town. Can’t we make the railroad pay some of the cost of the repairs?
Our 1,000 cars, buses and trucks have created endless noise and pollution on North and Conway streets and created pitted roads for us. Maybe town officials seeing the damage and smelling the stink if they comes around… maybe something will be done.
I could hear the last concert at the Tree House Brewing even though we live over a mile away. Maybe it is time for a hearing test? Is Tree House getting a 10-year tax break by the town? We seem to overlook their promise to reduce noise because that is what I consider most of the bands they hire.
We, too, have lived here 30 years. What does the town hope to do for the seniors? I think of the old senior center is now a new Town Hall? Too bad the town hall cannot be shared.
I guess I am done stating facts. It seems to do no good but makes me feel better. Please think about what I have stated and voice your opinion. Whether you agree or not, maybe it is time we opened some eyes and ears.
