I have two questions for the selectmen in Deerfield. Is the bridge on North Main Street going to be repaired, and if it is when will this happen? Why can’t we get a senior center in town?
Instead of working to resolve these issues you seem to come up with one project after another that is not necessary. Case in point: why are you intent on changing the parking on Elm Street? Also, why do you want to change the traffic pattern on Park Street? Neither of these things are necessary, and yet you continue to press on with the plans.
In the meantime, the bridge repair and the lack of a senior center go unresolved. I do not see any reason why the Congregational church cannot be used for the senior center. The town owns it, and it was a great spot for the library while the new one was built. There is plenty of room there, and any necessary repairs would be minor in cost compared to some of the other ideas you have floated about this. You continue to have one feasibility study after another, and to what end? Nothing changes.
It is very frustrating to see all the towns around us with senior centers. Shelburne Falls, Greenfield, Montague, Bernardston and Erving have provided well for their seniors. Frankly, it is embarrassing to know that our town does not care about the needs of the seniors who live here.
I grew up in South Deerfield, and I love this town. But I hardly recognize it as the same one that I grew up in.
