Regarding the “retort” to my most recent My Turn, “I’m ready for change.” I’ve written a few of these over the years, but this is the first time someone has written a response, so I’m feeling honored.
I’m sorry that the letter [“No Kings rallies pointless,” April 15] was only about what I wrote in the first three paragraphs, and nothing about the point I was making in the rest of the piece, which was almost 700 words long. A lot of people, all around the country, have been meeting and organizing about how they can exercise their freedom to speak up to what they believe is not right with our federal government, a freedom they cherish, knowing that so many people in other parts of the world don’t have the same opportunity.
We are fortunate to have this freedom, in this country that we call home, and the more that we speak up, the more chance that somebody will listen and pay attention to what we have to say.
I can only guess as to how many people in Washington, D.C. might know that there was a march and rally right here in Greenfield, but we know, and maybe that’s enough for now. I believe the letter writer and myself both believe in what we have to say, and we’re
both using this precious American freedom, while we can, and I’m thankful for that. And the fact that someone took the time to write to respond to my words gives me hope that there are more folks out there that are reading what we have to say.
