WENDELL — Selectboard members intend to gather public feedback regarding the possibility of establishing a Facebook page to inform residents of local news.

Wendell communicates with its roughly 900 residents through town newsletters, a privately run email list, and optional CodeRED notifications that alert the public to emergencies and time-sensitive information via phone calls, text messages and emails.

At last week’s meeting, Selectboard Chair Laurie DiDonato acknowledged that a Facebook page would likely benefit only a subset of town residents, but she still sees value in the social media platform, as long as someone is committed to managing the account.

“I think it’s valid to try,” she said at the Selectboard meeting.

Selectboard member Paul Doud was asked his thoughts and said he has never used Facebook, while Town Coordinator Kelly Tyler noted that people can choose whether to follow the page. She also said the page would be useful in sharing information about crashes, road closures, and other town occurrences and events.

“It’s very easy to post,” DiDonato chimed in. “We just have to have a bunch of people as administrators so that they could do it.”
