SOUTH DEERFIELD On a day fitting for some outdoor track and field, Frontier Regional swept visiting Mahar Regional on Tuesday afternoon. The teams competed in warm and sunny conditions.

The Frontier boys team took the win over the Senators, 107-37. On the girls side, the Redhawks won 122-23 over Mahar. Distance runner Luke Howard paced the Frontier victory. While running at 80% capacity, Howard dusted the competition in the mile (4:46.2) and the 2-mile (10:30.9).

“I used this for more as a workout,” Howard said. “I am doing some pretty high-volume training right now. Good amount of mileage. I will probably taper down and do less mileage and harder stuff toward the end of the season. Just to tune up and get the legs ready for the big meets.”

Howard hopes to run under four minutes, 20 seconds in the mile by the end of the season. Teammate Adrien Pazmandy also won multiple events for the Redhawks. Pazmandy won the pole-vault (11-6) and the 200-meter (23.6). Evan Hedlund won the 800-meter for Frontier. Grayden Gifford added two more wins for the Redhawks in the high jump and the 400-meter.

The Redhawks also swept the throwing events. With Ezra Rich taking first place in the shot put (45-3). John Reloj won the discus (121-5) while Julian Adams took first in the javelin (146-3).

Over in the jumping events, Collin Healy placed first in the long jump (18-5) for Frontier. For Mahar, Jahleel McGinnis won the triple jump (37-7). Robbie Farrow added another win for the Senators in the 400-hurdles (1:10.5).

Samuel Carter won the 110-meter hurdles for Frontier.

For the Frontier girls, Louise Flagollet won the 200-meter (28.1) and the 400-meter (1:01.8). Bailey Cusson also won multiple events, capturing victories in the discus (83-7) and the javelin (97-10). Madilyn Moore was first (27-4) in the shot put for the Senators.

Stellina Moore had an impressive afternoon for the Senators, winning the long jump (15-3) and the pole vault (10 feet). The conditions in South Deerfield felt good for Moore.

“I am so glad that we were outside and it was warm,” Moore said. “Last night I stepped outside and it felt weird that there was no temperature difference.”

The 10-foot pole vault tied a personal record for Moore. The junior seeks another school record this season in the pole vault. The record is held by her older sister Sienna Moore, who went on to compete in track and field at Holy Cross.

“I really want to get my sister’s school record,” Moore said. “But I tied my PR, I am happy about that.”

Rounding out the girls events was a Frontier victory for Charley Harrington in the in the triple jump (30-11). Maia Christensen won the high jump (five feet) for Frontier. In the 100-meter dash, Ella Whittier placed first (14 seconds) for the Redhawks. Liv Christensen won the mile (6:22.9) while Madelyn Antes took first in the 400-hurdles (1:14.1) for Frontier.

Liv Christensen added another win for Frontier in the 2-mile (14:10.1). Phoebe Radner won the 800-meter (2:40.2) for Frontier.

Boys track & field

Franklin Tech 118, Athol 24 The Eagles turned away the Bears in Montague in an Intercounty match up. Wyatt Whitman won three events for the Eagles: the high jump (4-10), the 100-meter hurdles (21.3) and the 400-meter hurdles (1:24.2) Sam Bodenstein also won multiple individual events for Franklin Tech. Bodenstein took first in the 200-meter (24.5) and the 100-meter (12.1)

Athol’s Nicholas LeBlanc swept the throwing events. LeBlanc took first in the shot put (40-1), the discus (143-3) and the javelin (18-6).

Girls track & field

Turners Falls 102, Athol 31 Mara Gray and Laura Fuess won multiple events for the Thunder in a home win over the Bears in Intercounty play. Gray won the shotput (24-9) and the javelin (13-1) for Turners Falls. Fuess won her first place points in the 100-hurdles (19.6) and the 400-hurdles (1:20.7). Jakhia Williams won the 100-meter (13.7) for the Thunder. Maliah Clark won the 200-meter (31.3) for the Bears.

Softball

Pioneer 10, Drury 5 The Panthers piled up 11 hits in the win over the Blue Devils at Alcombright Field in the Berkshires. Laylah Goulston, Amy VanDoren (two RBI), Jacobia Tyminski and Ryleigh Goodwin (two RBI) each had two hits for the Panthers. Maggie Tsipenyuk also had two RBI for Pioneer (2-5).

Jaelyn Boliski pitched three and two-thirds innings for the Panthers, giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts and three walks.

Greenfield 7, Franklin Tech 5 — The Green Wave erased a five-run deficit in the final two innings to beat the Eagles in Turners Falls in Franklin East play. Greenfield (3-3, 3-2) scored four runs in the sixth and three in the seventh to complete the comeback win. Amelia Rider had two hits, and an RBI for Franklin Tech (1-5, 0-5). Sandra Johnson also had a productive day at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and a double.

Olivia Lemay had 11 strikeouts for Greenfield. Sarah McCloud had two RBI. Ella Rotkiewicz had two hits for Greenfield.

Athol 41, Hampden Charter 0 Savannah Cordio went 3-for-5 with six RBI and two home runs in the Bears’ offensive explosion at Bowie Field in Springfield. Ella Reed had 13 strikeouts in the circle and had a homer and six runs scored on offense.

Turners Falls 10, Hopkins Academy 6 — The Thunder took down the Golden Hawks in Hadley in a Franklin East match up. Turners Falls moves to 4-2 on the season.

Girls tennis

Mohawk 3, Turners Falls 2 The Warriors picked up a Tri County win over the Thunder in Montague. Ryah Pizzi and Annabelle Koshinsky won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, for Mohawk (2-2, 1-1). In No. 1 singles, Olivia Wolbach of Turners Falls defeated Hazel Foucault, 6-1, 6-1. Ivan Hillenbrand and Anneke Whitsett won at No. 1 doubles for the Warriors. Olivia Cody and Layla Hammond won at No. 2 doubles for Turners Falls.

Boys volleyball

Southwick 3, Frontier 0 — The Rams swept the Redhawks at home, 25-15, 25-14 and 25-17. Nate Rivera had 11 kills and nine digs for Frontier (0-8, 0-6 East). Ethan Rivera played set up with 14 assists. Sean Eich-Richardson added eight digs for the Redhawks.

Athol 3, Hampden Charter 0 — Aiden Desreuisseau had 12 kills and 15 digs for the Bears (4-2, 2-1) in a West League win over the Wolves in Springfield. Set scores were 25-23, 25-14 and 25-15. Caunor Mason added another 11 kills and 12 digs for Athol. Erick Brito led the offense with 30 assists.
