Greenfield , MA – Marilyn Dimon White, 90, born Derby Connecticut, b. Jan 8 1936 d. Mar 30, 2026
Marilyn was a life force. As a true “Yankee”, she never wasted anything, including herself. It was her goal to be useful at every moment of her life. As a girl, she walked from the milk farm to a one room schoolhouse in Connecticut with her cousins. Later, she moved to her Grandma McAdams home, where she attended church on Sundays. There, her Sunday school teacher suggested that she look into Northfield, due to her academic talents.
Marilyn attended Northfield School for Girls (class of ’53) where she met Bill White (’53). She attended New Haven State Teacher’s College (1953-1957). She married the love of her life, “her Bill”, on August 17, 1957.
Bill & Marilyn put down roots in Greenfield in 1958. Marilyn began teaching 4th grade in Sunderland, Mass, and continued substitute teaching in the Greenfield Public Schools when her third child entered Kindergarten. She balanced raising her family and somehow found room to begin a new passion working at Greenfield Girls’ Club teaching macrame, ceramics, and cooking.
Marilyn was an integral part of the Greenfield community and volunteered tirelessly. Second Congregational Church was a central part of Marilyn’s life. Whether it be the “Knit One Pray Two” Group, Junior Women’s Group, Handbells, Adult Choir, or leading uncounted receptions, she was always there. Marilyn was also a proud member and volunteer of the YMCA, Junior Branch (Franklin Medical Center), Friends of Greenfield Public Library, and Warm the Children.
She was dedicated to her friends and involved in many social groups; her cherished bridge group, the pie baking crew with Robbin’s Church, and especially her weekly “Tea Group”. They were staples in her life.
Marilyn is survived by her children Richard P. White (Susan), Robert E. White (Sandy), and Julia W. Kimball (Russell); her grandchildren Meghan W. Westerbeck (Matthew), Matthew M. White, William R. Kimball, and Courtney H. Sheehan (Timothy); and also her great grandchildren Noah Richard Westerbeck and Avery Grace Westerbeck. Marilyn also leaves behind half-brothers David Dimon, Timothy Dimon, and Dale Dimon. She was predeceased by her husband William B. White in 2014.
