Next roast beef dinner set for March 14

BERNARDSTON — The United Church of Bernardston’s next Second Saturday Roast Beef Supper of the season will be held Saturday, March 14, with seatings at 5 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The church is located at 58 Church St. (Route 10).

The final supper of the season will be held in April. Each meal, which costs $15, includes roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetables, rolls and dessert.

St. Patrick’s Church hosting corned beef dinner

NORTHFIELD — St. Patrick’s Church at 80 Main St. will host its annual corned beef grab-and-go dinner fundraiser on Saturday, March 14, from 3 to 5 p.m.

Meals, which are $15 each, include corned beef, cabbage, vegetables, dessert and homemade Irish soda bread. Credit cards are accepted. All the food is made at the church.

Learn to paint rustic barns using watercolors

BERNARDSTON — My Art Company will present two workshops on painting rustic barns on Tuesdays, March 10 and March 17, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Participants are advised to only sign up for one workshop, with each session being limited to 10 attendees.

Participants may bring a photo of a farm they wish to paint, or work from the class project selection. These workshops are designed to improve techniques for composition, transferring designs, painting barn walls and adding texture to paintings using watercolors.

Falltown String Band to mark St. Patrick’s Day with Irish songs

BERNARDSTON — In celebration of St. Patrick’s Day, the Falltown String Band will perform Irish songs at the Bernardston Senior Center on Monday, March 16, at 3 p.m., followed by dinner at 4 p.m.

Former police officer to lead self-defense discussion

BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will host a self-defense discussion with instructor Sharon McGuinness on Wednesday, March 18, from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Topics include how to be more vigilant when in public and at home, how to reduce chances of being a victim, using your voice as a defensive technique, pepper spray (uses, warnings and effects) and basic techniques you can use to deter an attack.

McGuinness is a native of Greenfield. She has extensive martial arts training and is a former police officer with crisis intervention training.

March 19: Technology tutor to speak on AI

NORTHFIELD — Anne Wiley, a retired professor of psychology and gender and women’s studies who now serves as the technology tutor at the Northfield Senior Center, will lead a talk on artificial intelligence (AI) at the center on Thursday, March 19, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Wiley will help explain what AI is and how it works, as well as offer lessons of caution. Attendees are welcome to bring their cellphones and/or laptops.

Sign up for MASS MoCA trip by March 20

Bernardston, Leyden and Northfield seniors are invited to take a trip to MASS MoCA in North Adams on Monday, April 6.

The bus will leave the Bernardston Senior Center promptly at 9 a.m., with an estimated return time of 3 p.m. Admission and transportation costs are covered by a grant, but seniors will be responsible for their own lunch. Attendees can bring their own food or make reservations at Lickety Split or Bigg Daddy’s Philly Cheese Steak.

Next Memory Cafe set for March 25

NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s next monthly Memory Cafe will be held Wednesday, March 25, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Live music will be provided.

This program provides support and socialization for adults dealing with memory-related issues and their caregivers. A light lunch will be provided.
