The Mohawk Trail Regional girls Nordic ski team placed third at the MIAA Nordic Ski Championships held at Prospect Mountain in Woodford, Vt. on Tuesday.

Charlotte Niswonger led the way for the Warriors, placing sixth (24:55.6) in a field of 131 athletes. Ada Corner was next for Mohawk, finishing in seventh (25:00.8). Claire Pickard (27:50.9) and Corrine Somes (28.29.2) were 32nd and 36th, respectively, for the Warriors. Anya Read placed 42nd (29:06) for Mohawk.

Leigh Niedeck of Brookline topped the individual field (22:51.6). Mount Greylock took the team championship.

The Mohawk boys team finished fifth in the team standings. Augustus Niswonger was 10th (21:25) overall for the Warriors. Teammate Adam Muller was right behind him in 11th (21:25.8). Luke Pickard was 30th (23:24) for the Warriors. Aymeric Loucka was 51st (24:52.2).

Patrick Holland of Mount Greylock finished first (19:49.9) in the overall standings. The Mounties boys team also won the team championship.

Girls Basketball

Turners Falls 38, Gateway 29 — The Thunder pulled off their first victory of the season against the Gators in Huntington. Ivy Lopez scored 17 points in the non-tournament contest for Turners Falls. Jojo Hayman scored 11 points for the Thunder. Turners Falls had control before injuries and foul trouble along with the Gateway press derailed its momentum. The Thunder powered through with defense to secure the win.

Ludlow 41, Athol 27 — In non-tournament play, the Bears lost to the Lions at Mallet Gymnasium. Abigayle Spooner led Athol with 10 points. Evelyn King added seven points for the Bears (5-14).

Boys basketball

Pioneer 48, Hampden Charter 41 The Panthers downed the Wolves at Messer Gymnasium in a non-tournament game. Pioneer had three players in double-figures in Hayden Killeen (14 points), Judah Glenn (14 points) and Matt Richotte (14 points). Pioneer (4-15) has now won four out of its last five games.

Turners Falls 56, Gateway 49 (OT) — The Thunder pulled away in overtime to defeat the Gators in Huntington. Jackson Cogswell had a monster game for the Thunder, scoring 25 points in the victory. Freilyn Abarua added 19 points with five 3-pointets for Turners Falls in the non-tournament contest.
