A strong defensive effort for the Greenfield girls basketball team led to a 35-23 win over Hopkins Academy at Nichols Gymnasium on Friday night.

Tayler Bergeron (7-8, 5-4) scored 15 points for Greenfield in the Franklin South contest. As the postseason approaches, Greenfield now turns to things that need to be improved to compete at a high level in the postseason.

“Just our confidence,” Greenfield coach Ben Johnson said. “I feel like we are starting to move the ball better offensively. We are being aggressive shooting the shots that are open. Definitely for us it’s establishing down low a little bit more. We are primarily shooting 3s a lot. I’d like to see the inside outside game work a little bit more.”

Greenfield ranks 27th in the latest MIAA power rankings for Division 5. In the PVIAC Western Mass. rankings for Class C, the Green Wave are ranked 10th. The defense held the Golden Hawks to two points in the fourth quarter.

“Defensively I think we are flying around,” Johnson said. “We are working together. We are on the same page defensively. It’s just about coming together offensively.”
