Robert F. Verner

Erving, MA – Robert F. Verner, 92, entered eternal rest on Dec. 24, 2025. Born on July 30, 1933 to Charles E. and Alma Verner, in Watertown, Massachusetts, where Bob was raised until his graduation from Watertown High School in 1951.

Bob began a distinguished career as a machinist that spanned decades. His professional journey culminated in a highly specialized role within the Physics Department at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Working in the machine shop, Bob serviced the exacting and unique requirements of the professors and researchers. He was a master craftsman who possessed the rare ability to translate complex scientific theories into tangible, precision instruments, contributing significantly to the advancement of physics research.

A lifelong resident of Erving, Bob had a passion for Cadillac cars, BMW motorcycles, and the outdoors. He was a dedicated steward of his land, which was evident by his impeccable walking trails and neatly stacked wood piles. He enjoyed gardening, teaching history to his grandchildren, vacationing Cape Cod, and hiking the White Mountains with family.

He was predeceased by a son, David Verner, and survived by his three daughters, Melissa Verner of Longmeadow, MA, Rebecca Verner of Boxborough, MA, and Jennifer Lord and her husband Matthew of Bolton, MA. Siblings, Charles Verner of Amherst, MA, and Joy Verner of Little River, CA. Six grandchildren, Austin, Jordan, Max, Calista, Lucian, and Renzo, and three nephews, Trale Broudy, Trev Broudy and Jason Verner.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date with dear friends and family.
