Whately, MA – Claire Canedy, 79, of Whately, passed away peacefully at her home on January 6, 2026.
Claire was born on July 18, 1946, in Montague, MA, the daughter of William and Rita Canedy. She is survived by her brother Francis Canedy and sister-in-law Miriam of Greenfield. Claire is fondly remembered by the many caregivers and staff and all who met her, both at home and in the community. Claire enjoyed trips to the library and bookstore, car rides, walks outside and getting her hair and nails done. She also enjoyed her quiet times. She will always be remembered for her sweet nature, her sense of humor and her unique ability to make her needs known.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 13 from 3-5pm at the Czelusniak Funeral Home, 173 North Street, Northampton MA. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 14 from 10-11am at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 135 Main street, Greenfield. Burial to follow immediately at the St Mary’s Cemetery in Turners Falls MA.
Following the burial, there will be time for refreshments and remembrance at Claire’s home, 41 Long Plain Rd, Whately 01093.
