S. Deerfield, MA – Joan Rohrs Chedester of South Deerfield, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at home on December 6, 2025, at the age of 95.
Joan was born in New Rochelle, New York, to Emily and Walter Rohrs on November 8, 1930. The daughter of florists, Joan loved gardening and had beautiful gardens throughout her life.
Joan attended the Ursuline School for Girls in New Rochelle, followed by the Berkeley School of Business in White Plains.
Joan married her husband, Charles “Charlie” Chedester, on July 22, 1950. Together, they raised four children in Darien, Connecticut.
After raising her children, Joan built a successful real estate career in Darien. She also served for many years as the flower chairman at Noroton Presbyterian Church. She and Charlie were active members of the Darien Boat Club and loved boating on Long Island Sound with family and friends.
Joan and Charlie retired to South Deerfield, Massachusetts, in 1990. After Charlie passed, Joan became a member of the South Deerfield Congregational Church and created floral arrangements there as well.
Joan cherished her loved ones, and her family was her pride and joy. She will be missed dearly.
She is survived by her children and their families: Deborah Lyons and her husband John, and their daughters Jessica and Sarah; Judith Baum and her daughter Laura; Richard Chedester and his wife Jaqueline Kennedy, and her children Sean and Stephanie, along with their spouses and children; and Robert Chedester and his wife Jennifer, and their children Sarah, Elizabeth, Jonathan, Rebecca, and Samuel. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Judson Chedester, in 2006, and her sister, Muriel Wenk, in October of this year.
Joan’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside her loving husband, Charlie, at Noroton Presbyterian Church Memorial Garden in Darien, Connecticut. Interment will be private. There will be no public service. DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON, MA has been entrusted with her care.
