As a senior citizen and veteran I was intimidated by the need to choose the best Medicare plan for me. I learned that citizens of Massachusetts have a federally funded program that provides free health insurance counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and their caregivers named “SHINE.” I contacted the local office here in Greenfield and set up an appointment. When the time came, I met with Anna who was able to help me understand the Medicare options, compare plans (such as Medicare Advantage, Medigap, and prescription drug plans), and navigate enrollment.
