Northfield Senior Center to host tea social
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center is offering a new tea social on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 2 to 3 p.m.
Attendees can expect scones, desserts, tea and conversation. The cost is $5 and registration is required by Nov. 6. Call 413-498-2901, ext. 123 to sign up.
Hollyberry Fair set for Saturday
NORTHFIELD — Nine craftspeople will be featured Saturday, Nov. 8, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hollyberry Fair at the Trinitarian Congregational Church, 147 Main St.
The fair will offer a luncheon menu featuring two kinds of homemade soups, tossed salad, homemade bread, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and coffee. The baked goods table will have homemade apple pies, breads, baked beans and an assortment of baked goods.
The Hollyberry Raffle features a $150 gift card to Greenfield’s Terrazza Ristorante, a $150 gas card and a scratch ticket tree.
The Holiday Bargains Room includes a Christmas village, ornaments, lights, toys and more.
The nine crafters are: Michelle Lawler (handwoven gifts), Susan Worgaftik (handmade soaps and Earthcraft botanicals); Linda Steiner (Strowbridge Mountain Glass); Malgorzata Lach (woodcrafting); Holly Field (holiday decor); Martha McCormick (felted scarves); Robin Severance (quilted and crocheted gifts); Brenda Davis (holiday gifts); and Jeanne Closson (gifts for pets). Leslie Kellogg will also be there with her machine that makes jump ropes.
The church has free parking and is handicapped accessible.
Community bonfire set for Saturday
BERNARDSTON —The Bernardston Recreation Department will host an inaugural community bonfire on Saturday, Nov. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Pratt Field, 269 South St.
“This new annual event invites residents of all ages to gather around a large, safely managed bonfire to celebrate the season and enjoy an evening of community spirit,” Bernardston Selectboard Chair Brian Keir said during an Oct. 29 board meeting. “Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets and dress for crisp autumn weather.”
Nov. 10: Holiday card-making class
NORTHFIELD — Barb King will lead a holiday card-making class at the Northfield Senior Center on Monday, Nov. 10, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
All supplies are included. The cost is $8 to make two cards or $12 to make three. Call 413-498-2901, ext. 123 to sign up.
Bernardston Senior Center undergoing renovations
BERNARDSTON — The Bernardston Senior Center will be closed for renovations between Monday, Nov. 10, and Wednesday, Nov. 12.
Additionally, the lower level will remain closed through Nov. 29 as improvements are made to the heating and cooling system. This will impact all activities that occur on the lower level. Art classes, quilting, massage sessions, foot clinics, reiki sessions and technology help programs are canceled until the renovations have been completed.
Two Happy Feet walks planned
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center has scheduled two Happy Feet walks on Mondays, Nov. 10 and Nov. 24.
On Nov. 10, seniors can meet at the Northfield Mountain parking lot off Route 63 for a 3-mile walk up Pine Meadow Road along the Connecticut River. Dogs are allowed.
On Nov. 24, seniors can meet at the Senior Center at 9:45 a.m. for the “Happy Little Feet” walk to Northfield Elementary School, where they will pick up the children and walk with them back to the center for a morning activity.
Severe thunderstorms or heavy rain will cancel these walking programs.
Nov. 14: ‘A Hoppy History’
NORTHFIELD — Four Star Farms and Dickinson Memorial Library are co-sponsoring “A Hoppy History: Beer and Revolution in Early American History.” The program will be held inside the taproom at The Brewery at Four Star Farms on Friday, Nov. 14, from 6 to 7 p.m.
On the cusp of the nation’s 250th anniversary, attendees can learn about the role of taverns in the American Revolution and the history of hops in Massachusetts from Malcolm Purinton, assistant professor at Northeastern University and author of “Globalization in a Glass: The Rise of Pilsner Beer through Technology, Taste and Empire.”
Family trivia night coming up
BERNARDSTON — A family trivia night will be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 15, at the United Church of Bernardston.
Tickets are $5 per person. Children ages 12 and under will be admitted for free.
Learn to ‘Get More From Your Phone’
NORTHFIELD — Join Steph Stoudenmire for “Smartphone Skills: Get More From Your Phone” at the Northfield Senior Center on Thursday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 3 p.m.
This is a beginner-friendly workshop for Android and iPhone users. Attendees can learn to adjust their settings, use voice typing, navigate maps and download helpful apps. No registration is required.
Next Memory Cafe to feature Sunny Side Music
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Senior Center’s next monthly Memory Cafe will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by Sunny Side Music.
This program provides support and socialization for adults dealing with memory-related issues and their caregivers. A light lunch will be provided.
