The Frontier middle school girls field hockey team claimed the Valley Cup tournament championship in Holyoke earlier this month, for its fourth title in the past five years.

Eighth graders Leah Meattey and Logen Goddard scored during the penalty strokes competition to win the championship for the Red Hawks.  Mona Toschik turned aside all 25 shots in goal for Frontier to snag the shutout.

Naomi Malloy, Natalie Engstrom and Michaela Sloan also registered goals for the Red Hawks, who competed in the seniors division, in the tournament.  

Green Wave grab bronze in juniors division

The Greenfield youth field hockey team took bronze at the Valley Cup, after beating Frontier, 2-1, in the juniors division consolation game, on Oct. 18.

The Green Wave blanked Longmeadow, 1-0, and Agawam, 5-0, during the tournament, before being shut out by East Longmeadow, 1-0.
