Conrad Long

Shelburne, MA – Conrad Alden Long was born July 3, 1947 in Shelburne at his family’s homestead and passed away peacefully on the morning of May 3, 2026.

Conrad lived his life with a joyful spirit, always greeting neighbors, friends, and strangers with a warm smile and hello. He lived most of his life at the Long family homestead on Old Mohawk Trail. A graduate of Arms Academy and Johnson & Wales, he worked much of his career at The Phoenix in Greenfield and C & S in Brattleboro, VT.

In his younger years, Conrad was an avid traveler and a dedicated Civil War historian who especially enjoyed visiting historical sites. He also loved bowling, whether competing at the local alley or watching matches on Sunday afternoons. Although he lived with Cerebral Palsy, he never let it slow him down; he was a productive participant in farm chores for many years, from gathering sap with his family to chopping and stacking wood. Additionally, he was a long-time member of the Shelburne Grange and Shelburne Congregational Church.

He was predeceased by his parents, Helen and Gordon Long; his sister, Fleurette Patterson; sister-in-law, Arnice; and brothers-in-law, Hugh Wilder and Ray Patterson. He is survived by his brother, Joel Long; nieces Katrina Long Ouellette (Alan) and Melody McWherter (Karl); and nephew Aaron Long (Rebecca). He is also survived by his sister’s children, Trevor Wilder (Susan) and Dan Wilder, as well as many cousins, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his former wife and long-time friend, Susan.

There will be a graveside service at Hillside Cemetery, in Shelburne, on June 20th, 2026 at 12:00, PM for family and friends.

Conrad spent much of his youth at the Shriners Hospital. With gratitude, any donations in Conrad’s memory may be made to The Shriners Hospital in Springfield, MA. The family also thanks the staff at Charlene Manor for their care of Conrad over the last year of his life.
