FRCOG, FRTA seeking grant to expand ride services
NORTHFIELD — The Franklin Regional Council of Governments and the Franklin Regional Transit Authority are seeking grant funding from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to expand on-demand ride services for seniors in Northfield.
The Northfield Selectboard voted unanimously last week to sign a letter of support for the grant application. If awarded, the transit authority would be able to expand the hours residents can request rides from Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to Monday through Friday, 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and on weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
“It sounds like a no-brainer,” Selectboard Chair Barbara “Bee” Jacque said.
Author of ‘The Seymour Desk’ coming to library
NORTHFIELD — Local author and retired teacher Andy Harrison of Northfield will read from his newly published book, “The Seymour Desk,” at Dickinson Memorial Library on Thursday, Oct. 23, at 5:30 p.m.
“The Seymour Desk” is about Harrison’s three-year obsession with an inherited desk. In his research, he learns of “secret lovers, insane killers, sunken ships, drug addictions, weird statues, witches, depression, questionable paternity, missing fingers …”
Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event.
