Main Street repaving to begin Monday

GREENFIELD — The city expects that the westbound side of Main Street between Conway Street and Federal Street will be repaved during the week of Oct. 20. This repaving project will address inconsistencies in the pavement resulting from utility service work performed by Berkshire Gas and its contractors.

Berkshire Gas’ contractors are planning to mill the road surface on Monday, Oct. 20, and pave on Tuesday, Oct. 21. Parking on the westbound side will be blocked beginning late Sunday night. Sidewalks will remain open, and the contractor anticipates that traffic will be maintained in both directions. Access to driveways and side streets will also be maintained. Flaggers and a police detail will be on site to assist drivers.

The eastbound side of Main Street will be repaved by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation at a later date. Miles Street and Warner Street are also expected to be repaved during the week of Oct. 20.

“I know that the construction occurring downtown this summer has been disruptive,” Mayor Ginny Desorgher said in a statement. “Our short construction season in New England makes these projects particularly challenging, and I appreciate the patience of our community members and business owners as Berkshire Gas performed necessary work on its service lines.”

Author to present new memoir, ‘In Plain Sight’

GREENFIELD — Jonathan Mark Haber will present his new memoir, “In Plain Sight: A Memoir Infused With Military Psychological Operations,” at the Greenfield Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 10:30 a.m. to noon in the Conference Room.

The book centers on Haber’s investigation into government deception and his collaboration with Bart Jordan, a Manhattan Project physicist and NASA insider.

Haber’s journey from a 1950s Brooklyn childhood to draft resistance, communal living and independent journalism forms the backbone of the memoir.

The presentation will include evidence from the book and time for questions. Copies of the book will be available.
