The Franklin County Bulldogs Senior team improved to 5-1 on the season following a 33-0 win at home versus Palmer on Sunday.
The Bulldogs started off the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run courtesy of Xaviay Reynolds. Reynolds then caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Casey Burke. The subsequent 2-point conversion was run in by Burke to make it 13-0. The Bulldogs closed out their dominant first half with a Bryce Zraunig 5-yard touchdown score as they took a 19-0 lead into the break.
Zraunig returned the opening kickoff of the second half 70 yards for a touchdown, and Wes Darling made the 2-point kick to give Franklin County the 27-0 edge. Sunday’s scoring was closed out when Gabe Barber punched in a 1-yard touchdown run.
The defense was led by PJ Brodeur’s pair of interceptions, while Burke added six tackles and a sack.
The Bulldogs head to South Hadley on Saturday night at 5:45 p.m. to play the undefeated South Hadley Tigers with the division lead on the line.
Juniors
Just as the seniors did, the Franklin County Bulldogs junior team blanked Palmer at home, winning 20-0 in a strong all-around effort on Sunday.
The Bulldogs received touchdowns from Owen Martineau, Orion Ortiz and Ben Keller, while Wyatt Wilkens threw for a TD and added a 2-point conversion in the victory. Defensively, Colton Rider and Phoenyx Maynard were play makers for the Bulldogs. Gavin Keene and Kent Warner also contributed, as Keene jumped on a fumble that Warner forced to create a turnover.
Up next for the Bulldogs is South Hadley.
Pee-Wee
Make it a perfect 3-for-3 in shutouts against Palmer over the weekend, as the Bulldogs Pee-Wee team knocked off Palmer 20-0 as well behind the strong effort of Justin Martin who rushed for 131 yards and three TDs in a monster performance.
Jaxcyn Slauen-White ran for 19 yards and had a 50-yard touchdown score negated by a penalty. He also hauled in a 2-point conversion reception. On the other side of the ball, the Bulldogs were led by Martin’s seven tackles and Xavier McCarthy’s three stops and a fumble recovery.
Weston Hobbs and Holden Hobbs made four tackles apiece while the defensive line of Kasen Rider, Cody Castine, Crawford Miller and Oliver Avery played their best game of the season, according to the Bulldogs’ coaching staff.
Adult touch football
Gill CC Wood Working 12, Blitzing Bears 0 – Alex Bourrassa hauled in a touchdown pass from 24 yards out and Will Kaham had 2 interceptions, one for a TD, to lead Gill to victory. Tyler Hobbs and Dave Watson also turned in big games for Gill.
The Bears tallied five sacks, including three by Damian Vennel, to keep the game close. Carlos Suarez also played well in defeat.
Tar Heels 28, Pink Panthers 6 – Curtis Dowers fired three scoring passes and returned an interception all the way for a score as part of a 4-TD effort to lead the Tar Heels to a big win. Calvin Dowers had two touchdown catches and two extra points while Marc Gomes caught one.
Pink Panthers quarterback Seth Aldrich connected with Jarod Hart for the team’s lone TD. Dan Jenks and Rocky Landry also had strong games in a losing effort.
Dope Boys 12, J&J Athletics 6 – Marquis Eberhart hooked up with Derrick Whitley and Damian Jones for scores as the Dope Boys squeaked out a win on Sunday. Luis Ramos contributed consistently in the victory as well.
J&J Athletics quarterback Mak Rodgers hit Trevor Thomas for a TD Pass to keep the game close. Courtney Ousley, Brian O’Connor and Erik Pardee played well in the loss.

Scramble championship
In the men’s division flight one (gross scoring), Clint McCloud and Justin McCloud totaled a 127 over two days to take first place. Jamie Crocker and Brady Booska tied for second with Eric Adams and Steve Jones (131). Flight two was won by Connor Merrigan and Mike McGoldrick’s score of 135. Chris Varilly and Rich Young tied with Dan Gavin and Chuck Yetter with a 136. Casey Fahey and Jacob Morris’ score of 142 tied Joe Butz and Mike Plager for first place in the third flight. In the net scoring, Jeff Cusson and Sam Conant took first in flight one (124), Adan Hernandez and Noah Graves won flight two (122) and Jay Milkey and Chris Ferro took first in flight three (126).
The women’s division gross scoring was won by Elaine Goodhind and Diane Carme, who shot a 141. Teresa Varner and Judy Strong came in second (149). The net scoring was won by Kathy Nicoll and Sharon Meade (117) while Heather Powers and Raye Young came in second (120).
TRIAD golf outing
In the men’s flight (gross scoring), Chris Ray, Dan Gavin, Chuck Yetter and James Goldrick fired a 54 to win at 18-under. The mixed/women’s flight (gross scoring) was also won with a 54, as Chris Zukowski, Alex Towne, Justin McCloud and Samantha Smith carded the 18-under score in their flight.
For net scoring, Bob Haughey, Connor Merrigan, Jake Bryant and Kyle Carr took first with a 50 in the men’s flight while Marty Kendrick, Wendy Kendrick, Janet Twyon and Jason Grader won the net in the mixed/women’s flight on Match of Cards.
Rod Demers won closest to the pin on hole No. 2 (2 feet, 1 inch), Dan Gavin won it on hole No. 5 (2 feet, three inches), Chris Mason won on No. 11 (3 feet, 9 inches) and Samantha Smith won on No. 15 (2 feet, 1 inch).
Northfield Gold Club
Northfield Golf Club and Thomas Memorial Golf Club challenged each other this weekend in their annual “Field and Falls” tournament for The Snow Cup.
The Northfield Golf Club team kept the trophy this year with a 16-8 win over Thomas Memorial Golf Club in the two-day competition.
Thomas Memorial won the Division B Championship 182-155 in their two-day scramble competition.
Youth field hockey
The Greenfield Juniors field hockey team cruised to a 6-0 win on Saturday, blanking Southwick in dominant fashion. Penelope Gioules scored twice and had an assist, Charlie Lovett also tallied three points (two goals, assist) and Dani Zraunig recorded a goal and assist in the win. Savannah Thomas (goal) and Lillie Hubert (assist) rounded out the scoring, while Makenna Ward had one save in goal and Ellie Martin and Zoey Lively played well defensively.
The Greenfield Bantams field hockey team was also in action over the weekend, as they defeated Agawam 4-2 on Sunday. Grayson Baker accounted for half of the Greenfield goals with two, Ayla Doherty found the back of the cage and Raeghan Bernard notched a goal and assist as well. Ellie McIntyre was in goal and made several quality saves, while Willow Bettencourt and Saylor Snow both shined with great defensive plays.
