Robert (Bob) Girard
St. Petersburg, FL – Robert Ernest Girard (Bob), 90, of St.
Petersburg, Florida passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025,
following a brief illness.
Bob was born on October 10, 1934, in Greenfield, Massachusetts, the
son of the late Ernest Louis Girard and Anna Isabelle (Colucci)
Girard. He grew up in Greenfield, where after graduation he enlisted
in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Europe, he met the
love of his life, Willy, and on October 4, 1958, they were married in
Amsterdam, Netherlands. Together they shared 42 years of marriage
until her passing.
Bob served honorably in the United States Air Force for 20 years, with
duty stations in Maryland, Florida, Colorado, Georgia, Alaska, and
Saudi Arabia. After retiring from service, he returned to
Massachusetts and worked for the Town of Greenfield, the Greenfield
Tap and Die, and was Town Manager in Winchester, New Hampshire and
Southwick, Massachusetts. He also devoted time to the American Legion
in Greenfield.
A proud veteran, Bob loved his country deeply. He also loved traveling
the world, visiting family in Georgia and spending many weeks in
Colorado with his granddaughter. After his years in the Air Force, he
lived in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Florida, but no matter
where he was, he carried a strong love for family and community.
Bob will be remembered for his joyful spirit and the way he never met
a stranger. Never one to stay home, he could always be found sharing
stories, playing poker, watching Jeopardy, or later enjoying a good
game of Rummikub-especially when he won. Above all, Bob loved his
family and the time spent together.
He is survived by his beloved daughter Lisa Turner; his granddaughters
Jen Bond, Tory Decker, Monique Moses, Susan Chataignier, and Carrie
Willis; his grandsons Ben Wiggins and Tom Wiggins; nine
great-grandchildren; his sister Patricia Johnson; and many nieces,
nephews, and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Willy, his parents
Anna and Ernest Girard, his brother Ronald Girard, and his daughters,
Wilma Cloud and Marion Girard.
At Bob’s request, there will not be any formal services. He and Willy
were laid to rest together on August 28, 2025, at Bushnell National
Cemetery in Florida.
Bob’s life was one of service, love, and laughter. His family and
friends will miss him dearly but take comfort in knowing he is
reunited with Willy, the love of his life.
