Wilma Brooks

Whately, MA – Wilma Brooks, 94, of Chestnut Plain Road, Whately passed
away September 21, 2025 at Regal Care Nursing Home in Greenfield. Born
in Northampton January 12, 1931. She was the younger daughter of the
late Frederick and Ethel (Leggette) Lloyd. She grew up on Jackson
Street, Northampton in the house her father designed and built. She
attended Northampton schools and College. Wilma met her husband Carl
Brooks while they both attended the former Northampton Commercial
College. They were married for over 65 years when Carl passed in 2017.

Carl and Wilma owned a successful business together, The Typewriter
Shop, in Northampton. They purchased a farm in Whately in 1961 where
they raised their three sons. They loved to travel with various
camping groups in the summer and snowmobile vacations in the winters.
They traveled to Alaska several times with their pickup camper on
extended vacations. Wilma was a devoted long time member of Whately
Congregational Church. Her faith was a very important of her life.
Wilma sang in the choir for many years. She absolutely loved all
music. They were involved in nearly every church event over the years.
She and Carl were long time members of the Whately Grange too. She
also loved to paint and her home is decorated with many paintings. She
also played the organ in her home for all to enjoy and sing along
with.

Wilma has a sister, Ruth Ann of Westfield, MA, who has two children,
Diane of Westfield and Bruce of Pepperell. Wilma leaves her three
sons, Lloyd Brooks of New Salem, MA, David Brooks of Bernardston, MA
and his long time partner Cynthia Walker, and Jason Brooks of Apollo
Beach, Florida. She also leaves four wonderful grandchildren, Lloyd
Brooks Jr., Jennifer Knapp, Bobby Brooks and Shannon Gray.

Calling hours will be Saturday, September 27th, from 4-6PM at Wrisley
Funeral Home in So. Deerfield.
