ASHFIELD โ Farmers take note: the Ashfield Agricultural Commission is hosting an inaugural Farmers Harvest Potluck on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Ashfield farmers are invited to join their neighbors at the upper picnic area at Ashfield Lake from 5 to 7 p.m. for an evening of food and company.
“There’s many, many farms in Ashfield and this is an opportunity for us to get together and enjoy community,” Agricultural Commission member Lindley Wilson said. “It’s a chance to sit and share a blanket and some food, and discuss farming practices and our shared interests.”
Wilson said this is the first harvest potluck the commission has planned, and members are excited to bring a group of farmers together to share a meal with ingredients grown locally.
“We’re hoping to make it happen every year,” she said. “This is our maiden voyage.”
Wilson said the commission hopes the potluck will be an opportunity for busy farmers to take a break as the busy summer season comes to a close, catch up with friends and meet other farmers in town.
“A lot of farmers, because they start their days really early and have so many chores to do, don’t always have a lot if time for socialization and meeting new people,” Wilson said.
She added that the potluck will be a chance for the Agricultural Commission to get feedback from farmers on the state of agriculture and what the commission can do to support the town’s farmers.
“We’re looking to the future,” Wilson said.
Farmers should “come as they are,” Wilson said. Whether it’s straight from the field, greenhouse or woodlot, farmers are welcome.
