First Friday returns to Turners Falls
MONTAGUE — First Friday programming returns to Turners Falls on Friday, Sept. 5, with artist displays, evening shopping and musical performances along Avenue A.
At the Great Falls Discovery Center at 2 Avenue A, guests can learn about the fabric arts, including how fabric is turned into yarn, at 3 p.m. Later at Waterway Arts, 102 Avenue A, there will be an artist reception for the September show “Portals, Doorways & Leaks” by Mathew Hollander and Trevor Powers.
LOOT found + made will be open late from 5 to 8 p.m., featuring the Rotating Art Book Project, where artists create artwork in a page of a book corresponding to a monthly theme. The books are then shared with others at the end of the month.
At The Rendezvous restaurant starting at 6:30 p.m., there will be music from Drew Paton. Then at 9:30 p.m., Burial Grid, Spreaders, Painted Faces and Clew of Theseus will perform. Down at Peskeompskut Park, at the intersection of Avenue A and Seventh Street, Julian Gerstin Sextet will give a jazz performance starting at 7 p.m.
Health insurance help, dental care available
TURNERS FALLS — Staff from the Community Health Center of Franklin County will offer help on health insurance and offer dental care on Monday, Sept. 8, starting at 9:30 a.m. at The Brick House Community Resource Center, 24 Third St.
The Health Insurance Navigator from the Community Health Center will be there to help people sign up for or change their MassHealth and/or Health Connector insurance policy. A dental hygienist will offer dental work that day as well.

Harry Remer to perform at Discovery Center
TURNERS FALLS — Americana singer-songwriter Harry Remer will perform on Friday, Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Great Falls Discovery Center, 2 Avenue A.
Doors for the show open at 6:30 p.m., and there is a sliding-scale suggested donation of $7 to $20, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. Children will be admitted for free. Coffee and other refreshments will be available.
Next puzzle swap set for Sunday, Sept. 14
ERVING — The Erving Public Library will host an all-ages puzzle swap on Sunday, Sept. 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees don’t need to bring a puzzle in order to take a puzzle.
Learn about housing in Brick House program
TURNERS FALLS — The Brick House Community Resource Center at 24 Third St. will host the Franklin County Regional Housing & Redevelopment Authority on Thursday, Sept. 4, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Attendees will learn about searching for housing and the Residential Assistance for Families in Transition (RAFT) program, which provides financial assistance for some housing situations. They will also have the opportunity to make appointments with Franklin County Regional Housing & Redevelopment Authority staff members to get help with their individual situations.
