Labor Day barbecue marks 30th year
WHATELY — The Whately Congregational Church will hold its 30th annual chicken barbecue on Labor Day, Sept. 1, from noon to 1:30 p.m.
At 177 Chestnut Plain Road, attendees will be able to pick up food to take home from the signature menu: barbecue chicken, local corn, baked potatoes, rolls and brownies.
Tickets are $17 for adults and $7 for children, cash or check only. Those who are interested must reserve a spot by calling 413-665-2653.
Hadley resident becomes Whately accountant
WHATELY — The Selectboard has unanimously appointed Hadley resident James Palmier to serve as town accountant.
Palmier, 30, will work for the town while running J2 Living Co., his custom furniture business in Hadley. He applied for the job to use his knack for numbers in public service.
“I’m looking forward to working with the team here at the town and certainly am excited to start my journey in public service,” Palmier told the Selectboard on Wednesday.
EV chargers coming to Whately library, Town Offices
WHATELY — Chargers for electric vehicles are expected to be installed outside the Town Offices and S. White Dickinson Memorial Library.
Thanks to an incentives program offered by the providers of the chargers, East Coast Renewable Energy LLC, the town will not have to shoulder the expense of the installations. Because the town will not own the chargers, Town Administrator Peter Kane said users will pay an added fee to support the service.
He added that the timeline for the installation depends on whether Eversource approves the incentives program request.
