People who dislike the idea of unseating an incumbent elected official often invoke the expression, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” Unfortunately, when it comes to Greenfield’s corner office, something is broken. That “something” is the people’s trust. What needs to be fixed? Unfair assessments, disproportionately penalizing lower income property owners as well as regular homeowners whose only equity is in their house. Inequitable enforcement of permitting regulations, disproportionately penalizing those who play by the rules rather than those who don’t. Questionable judgment, resulting in lawsuits and other actions which put our community at risk from a legal, financial, or environmental perspective.

Who can fix it? As mayor, the person best qualified to fix this broken trust is Virginian “Ginny” DeSorgher. A former emergency room charge nurse, Ginny saw broken bones, wounds, and hearts. She had to prioritize, delegate, make the most of limited resources, and make swift decisions that could result in life or death. She had to be compassionate, tough, and real. Ginny DeSorgher brought this skill- set to Greenfield when she was elected District 3 councilor. While serving on the Planning Board and then the Ways and Means Committee, she learned the ins and outs of government policy-babble. She developed her own brand of communicating, challenging, and encouraging consensus. And people have been listening. Because of her people-centric attributes, Ginny has garnered support from every corner of this community. And like me, these other supporters are choosing Ginny because we are disillusioned, distrustful, and disappointed by the actions taken by our current mayor during her time in office. I’m proud to support Ginny Desorgher, because I believe she has the strength, honesty, intelligence, and plain-speaking communication skills to play a leading role in mending what’s broken, and inspire new confidence in Greenfield municipal government.
