Who will best represent your values and priorities? Greenfield’s mayoral election deserves careful consideration.

I appreciate both mayoral candidates’ service to Greenfield. In fact I have great appreciation for every single citizen who has ever stepped up, each one contributing to our ongoing experiment in democracy, right here in our town! My appreciation holds true regardless of inevitable differences of outlook or opinion.

The School Department proposed FY24 funding was cut too much by our current mayor. Councilor Virginia “Ginny” DeSorgher prioritized restoring adequate funding for education. She worked in leadership with her fellow city councilors when they voted to restore money for schools, and the votes were near unanimous. Thanks for representing my priorities and values!

The contamination at the Lunt property may well have been “swept under the rug” were it not for Councilor Desorgher’s bold actions. Thanks, Ginny!

Perhaps worst of all was the Patrick Buchanan civil trial, with a jury’s finding of racial animus against Greenfield. Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s actions have been, in my view, overwhelmingly out of alignment with standing against racism. Sadly, in that case my priorities and values have been horribly misrepresented.

And don’t get me started about home equity theft.

Lawyers sent to speak to the City Council slickly focused on legal distractions, while ignoring both the ethical red line and obvious legal realities. For crying out loud, the Supreme Court ruled months ago, and now that Greenfield is being sued, the mayor says (as quoted in the Recorder): “It’s a little early to try to figure out.” She added that the city is “ready to defend itself.” C’mon!

Who best represents your values? Please vote. I will be voting DeSorgher.
