UMass football head coach Joe Harasymiak announced during a press conference on Friday that wide receiver Dallas Elliot will miss the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with “a rare form of cancer.”

Elliot, a Leeds native and former Williston Northampton standout, appeared in the Minutemen’s first five games this season.

“He’s a fighter,” Harasymiak said. “If you’ve ever talked to him or met him, there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s going to win this matchup.”

Harasymiak said Elliot began treatment at the Dana-Farber Cancer Insititute in Boston this week.

Elliot is a graduate student and has been with the UMass football team for five seasons.
