Council holding final Death Café of the year

GREENFIELD — The Interfaith Council of Franklin County will hold its last in-person “Death Café” of the year on Monday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Second Congregational Church, 16 Court Square.

“At a Death Cafe people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death,” reads a notice from Kate Mason, a member of the Interfaith Council of Franklin County. “Our objective is to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives. A Death Café is a group- directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.”

The council has sponsored several events this year on the topic of death in addition to its usual Death Cafés. On Nov. 13, it will host a free panel discussion, “The Business of Dying.”

Residents of Precincts 4, 5, 6 invited to meeting

GREENFIELD — The City Council Community Relations Committee invites all residents of Precincts 4, 5 and 6 to attend a meeting to share any concerns about their precinct.

The meeting will be held at the City Hall meeting room, second floor, on Monday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. This will be a hybrid meeting to allow both virtual and physical attendance.

There will be a sign-up sheet for those who wish to speak. The Community Relations Committee Chair Christine Forgey will address those attending and share procedural guidelines. To allow everyone equitable time, there will be a time limit per speaker.

It is anticipated there will be a similar meeting in November for residents of Precincts 7, 8, and 9 at a date and time to be determined.
