In reference to the lawsuit against the city for keeping all proceeds from sales of tax-delinquent homes, the Recorder quoted the mayor as saying, that the city is ”ready to defend itself.” [“Second plaintiff joins lawsuit on property taking,” Recorder, Oct. 3]. But against whom? The plaintiffs? These people, the ones from whom she vows to protect us, are her constituents who may very likely be entitled to reimbursement from our city. What a difference it would have made if instead of letting loose her contentious battle cry, the mayor had graciously reached out to the plaintiffs, our neighbors, to assure them that our city would do what was fair and lawful. But this is yet one more example of many over the past three years that illustrates the mayor’s lack of interest in and ability to create an atmosphere of positivity and connection within the community.
