I’m writing in praise of Greenfield’s new skate park. I have noticed that from the moment it opened, the skate park has been filled with people at all hours of the day — certainly the high level of usage is evidence that this project was always something our town needed and wanted. I also wanted to share some outside validation: recently, an old friend came to visit me, and he was specifically excited to see the new skate park. This is a person who has skated all his life, at parks all over the world. He could not believe the high quality of our new park! He said our park was clearly lovingly designed by people who really put thought into it, and that it would be the envy of any city he’s ever been to. I asked him for some direct quotes and he said “the concrete is unusually nicely poured,” the park has “good street plaza features,” and a “fun flow.”

Many community members worked tirelessly, for over a decade, to make this skate park happen, and I wanted to give them some public applause. In particular, I commend Christy Moore, our devoted recreation director, who always believed in the project and kept it in her capital budget over all the years of debate about where and how and whether to build it. It’s truly a wonderful addition to our town, and I encourage everyone to go check it out, and perhaps spend an hour on one of the comfortable shaded benches (with complementary phone chargers)!
