The Four Rivers girls ultimate team traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah last weekend where it competed in the High School National Invite tournament. The Otters placed seventh in the 16-team field.

Four Rivers opened the tournament on Friday with pool play, getting things underway with an 11-8 win over Cleveland. The Otters then fell to Nathan Hale, 15-10, but closed out the day with a 15-2 win over Madison.

The Otters entered Saturday at the No. 5 seed and earned a win over Edina, 11-7, to move on to the quarters. There Four Rivers took on South Eugene — which ended up winning the tournament — and fell, 15-1. The Otters then took on Lincoln and dropped a 14-6 decision.

Four Rivers then played in the 7/8 place game to close out the tournament and tangled with Newton North, where it pulled out an 8-6 victory to finish the tournament in seventh place.

“The team broke seed and worked really hard to overcome the difference in altitude, injuries and travel fatigue,” Otters assistant coach Abby Schlinger said. “We had the opportunity to play some really high ranking teams including South Eugene who ended up winning the whole thing.”

Eve Macek finished the tournament with 18 assists and 12 points caught. Eleanor Herbert dished 10 assists, Tirz Skelton made seven assists and Sophia Slade and Linnea Macek both recorded six assists. Slade and Sylvia Guillaume each caught eight points while Ally Martin caught six points.
