GREENFIELD — A woman was hospitalized with injuries of unknown severity following a three-vehicle crash that occurred at the intersection of Wells and Allen streets on Monday afternoon.
Deputy Police Chief William Gordon said the incident was reported at 2:18 p.m. According to the police report, a 59-year-old woman from Winchester, New Hampshire, who was driving a gray 2015 Honda CR-V southbound along Wells Street, stopped at a stop sign and then continued to drive, thinking the intersection was clear. The Honda then collided with a gray 2011 Nissan Armada driven by a 48-year-old man from Oak Courts in Greenfield, who was headed eastbound on Allen Street.
The impact of the initial collision then caused the Honda to strike a gray 2012 Dodge Caravan, which was headed northbound along Wells Street. The Dodge was driven by a 50-year-old Wells Street resident and occupied by a 16-year-old male passenger.
The Honda sustained heavy passenger-side damage, and the front bumper was torn away. The Nissan, which had a trailer hitched to the back, received heavy front-end damage, and the Dodge received minor front-end damage. Both the Honda and Nissan were towed.
The Greenfield Police and Fire departments responded. The Honda’s driver was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center by a Greenfield Fire Department ambulance. No other injuries were reported.
According to Gordon, the Winchester woman has been issued a civil charge for failure to use care in starting.
The intersection reopened at around 2:50 p.m.
