SHELBURNE FALLS — Minor damage and no injuries resulted from a fire on Mechanic Street Sunday evening.

Shelburne Falls Fire District responded at around 6:25 p.m. on Sunday to 54 Mechanic St., where firefighters found “light smoke from the eaves and active fire to the back exterior wall” of the garage, according to a post on the fire district’s Facebook page. Upon entry, fire was also found on the back wall, extending into the crawlspace.

After the fire was extinguished, firefighters checked for hotspots. Departments that had responded through mutual aid were allowed to leave at around 7:50 p.m., while Shelburne Falls Fire District remained at the property for “fire watch” until 8:30 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Mutual aid included departments from Buckland, Shelburne, Colrain, Conway, Greenfield, Charlemont and Ashfield. State Police also responded.
