Northfield PTO
selling wreaths
NORTHFIELD — The Northfield Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization will be selling wreaths on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 12:15 to 2 p.m. in front of Northfield Elementary School.
According to the PTO’s Facebook event page, the evergreen wreaths are made locally and come with the customer’s choice of a handmade bow for $20 each (cash, check and debit/credit card accepted). Wreaths are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, with no advance ordering.
Proceeds support the PTO’s efforts to help fund classroom supplies, field trips, enrichment programs and more.
WARWICK — The annual Warwick Holiday Fair will be held at the former Warwick Community School, a fully accessible building at 41 Winchester Road, on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Warwick.
According to Andrea Woods, organizer of the Warwick Holiday Fair and a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church, the fair will include more than 30 local artisans and vendors featuring jewelry, turned wooden bowls, knitted and quilted items, locally made wine, cheeses, handmade soaps and lotions, children’s items, handmade Christmas cards, photos and paintings, and baked goods. There will also be a gift card raffle and silent auction table, a book swap offered by the Warwick Free Public Library, a hot lunch and harp music by Warwick resident Clyde Perkins Jr.
The fair has been held for at least 50 years, formerly in Town Hall. After being canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, the event returned in 2021 but did not include its usual hot lunch — a feature that is back this year.
BERNARDSTON — The 27th annual Tuba Christmas concert, organized by Gill resident Steve Damon, will be held at the United Church of Bernardston on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 2 p.m. If possible, the concert will be held outdoors.
While the concert is free for attendees, donations will be accepted to support Franklin County’s CROP Hunger Walk, which Damon also organizes. The CROP Hunger Walk is a project of Church World Service that provides support throughout the world to communities lacking enough food.
Tuba Christmas concerts are held across the country, as well as internationally. Damon previously said he “fell in love with the concept” and was inspired to start a local version after attending a Tuba Christmas in Boston in 1990. Damon has noted that Tuba Christmases often draw from the same group of musicians, and that the Franklin County concert has attracted anywhere from 12 to 52 performers.
Wreath making workshop to raise money for church
LEYDEN — A wreath making workshop will be held Sunday, Nov. 27, at Leyden Town Hall. Sessions will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 1 to 3 p.m.
According to the Facebook event page, a mix of local greens, ribbon for making bows, wreath rings and wire will be provided. However, participants can bring accents if they wish to add more than a bow. Participants are also encouraged to bring pruners and work gloves, if available.
The cost is $25 per wreath, with half the proceeds supporting the Leyden United Methodist Church. Finished wreaths are also available for purchase. Advance registration is not required.
NORTHFIELD — Mount Grace Land Conservation Trust will round out Giving Tuesday on Nov. 29 with a trivia night fundraiser at The Brewery at Four Star Farms, 508 Pine Meadow Road. Registration will begin at 5 p.m., with trivia starting at 5:30 p.m.
For those less interested in trivia, there will also be a raffle of local art, food and gift certificates to local businesses, according to Mount Grace.
As a nonprofit protecting agricultural, natural and scenic land in western and central Massachusetts, Mount Grace hopes to inspire generosity for land protection on Giving Tuesday, a global day of giving. Every gift made to Mount Grace on Nov. 29 will be matched up to $5,000.
The cost is $10 per person to register for trivia, and up to five people are allowed per team. Prizes include local goods and a gift certificate to The Brewery at Four Star Farms for the winning team.
Mount Grace partnered with The Brewery at Four Star Farms in March for a Richardson Overlook beer release party, raising money to ensure that the 38-acre mountaintop property in Northfield with the Richardson-Zlogar cabin on the New England National Scenic Trail will remain open to the public. Having purchased Richardson Overlook in June, Mount Grace is partnering with the Appalachian Mountain Club to steward the land, trails and cabin.
