The Pioneer Valley Regional softball team clinched a share of the Valley Wheel league championship with a 25-3 (five innings) win over Lee on Friday afternoon.

“The players have been much more precise and intentional with their play these last couple of weeks and are beginning to understand what they are capable of as a team,” Pioneer coach Theresa Tsipenyuk said. “It’s an exciting time of year to see this kind of growth.”

Pioneer (8-6, 7-1) emptied the bench early against the overmatched Tigers. Maggie Tsipenyuk went 6-for-6 including a double with with four RBIs. Evy Lewis went 5-for-5 with a double and five RBI.

Amy VanDoren was 4-for-5 with 3 RBI and Luci Burnap was 3-for-5 with a double and 3 RBIs. Cobi Tyminski and Jaelyn Boliski also each had multiple hits. Ryleigh Goodwin, Abby Fortier and Greta Lewis each had two hits. Hannah Shepard and Kiara Gruszkowski had one hit each.

Boliski pitched a complete game, giving up six hits with five strikeouts.

Mohawk 11, Drury 6 Grace Stevens struck out 10 hitters in the road win for the Warriors in a Valley Wheel contest. Stevens only gave up five hits in her outing. Riley Dyer had three hits and an RBI for Mohawk. Addie Loomis added two RBIs. Stevens had two hits and three RBIs for the Warriors.

Baseball

Frontier 8, Athol 4 — Braiden Dion had a triple and a double with three RBI in the Suburban East win for the Redhawks in South Deerfield. Carter Miller added a hit and an RBI for Frontier (12-3, 8-2). Miller got the win on the mound, pitching into the third inning with four strikeouts. Eli Wein had three hits for Athol (2-12, 1-9).

Franklin Tech 10, Pioneer 2 The Eagles got a road win over the Panthers in Suburban East play.

Girls tennis

Greenfield 3, St. Mary’s 2 — The Green Wave got a road win over the Saints in Westfield. Amy Mihailiceno beat Shannan Gargan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Karinna Kostov added another win in singles competition, downing Isabel Henle 6-0, 6-2.

Stella Longe and Natalia Card grabbed the third win at No. 2 doubles, beating Josie Hicks and Rylie Therault 6-2, 6-1.

Lenox 4, Frontier 1 — The Millionaires stayed unbeaten with a win over the Redhawks in the Berkshires. Esther Ehle and Jimin Ahn provided the only win for Frontier. Ehle and Ahn defeated Lauren Romano and Brooklyn Butler 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles.

Boys tennis

Frontier 3, Amherst 2 The Redhawks avenged an earlier loss to the Hurricanes with a home win. Casey Bestler and Noah Nichols took home wins in singles competition for Frontier. Henry Pleasant and Liam Wells won at No. 1 doubles 6-3, 6-3.
