GREENFIELD — The Northwestern District Attorney’s Office has identified the Shelburne Falls woman killed in a Thursday crash on the Mohawk Trail as 48-year-old Connie Francis Rogers.

Rogers, a resident of High Street in Shelburne Falls, was heading west on the Mohawk Trail (Route 2) in Greenfield at 7 a.m. Police believe the Nissan Frontier she was driving hit black ice on the roadway, sending the vehicle into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a Chevrolet Silverado heading eastbound.

The vehicle driven by Rogers caught fire upon impact. The other driver, a 57-year-old man, was uninjured and is not expected to be charged in connection with the crash, according to DA’s office spokesperson Laurie Loisel. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

The Mohawk Trail was closed from Home Depot to just past Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters from shortly after 7 a.m. until 11:41 a.m. so officials could investigate. Both vehicles were towed.

Greenfield Police officers, State Police troopers assigned to the detective unit working out of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) responded. According to Loisel, the crash remains under investigation by these units. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Rogers worked at Pelican Products in South Deerfield, Loisel confirmed A phone call to the South Deerfield office and an email to the director of corporate communication in California were not immediately returned.
