It was a slow start but a strong finish for the Greenfield field hockey team on Monday against South Hadley. 

The Green Wave led 1-0 at the end of the first quarter before a weather delay caused both teams to head indoors for an hour. When the game resumed, the Tiger defense was able to keep Greenfield off the scoreboard, with the Green Wave holding a 1-0 lead at the half. 

Greenfield came to life in the second half, scoring four goals to come away with a 6-0 Suburban League win in South Hadley. 

Lillia Kachelmeyer led the offensive charge for the Green Wave, putting in a hat trick. Josie Cloutier tallied two goals, McKenzie Boswell had a goal and an assist while Grace Laurie dished an assist in the win. 

Ainslee Flynn made one save for Greenfield while Amaya Dunn stopped 10 shots for the Tigers.

Volleyball

Frontier 3, Longmeadow 2 — It came down to the wire in Longmeadow on Monday, with the Redhawks winning the opening two sets before the Lancers stormed back to win the next two to force a fifth and final set. 

Frontier held on late, earning a 25-12, 25-20, 23-25, 23-25, 15-7 victory. 

Eve Dougan put down 22 kills and four aces, Caroline Deane tallied 20 kills, Sam Baker smashed four kills and four aces while Sydney Scanlon dished 43 assists in the win. 

Greenfield Touch Football

Tyler Lavin returned a punt for a touchdown and hauled in a pass in the end zone from Parker Hickey to lead Sirum to a 12-0 win over the Blitzing Bears on Sunday in a Greenfield Touch Football contest. 

Damian Vennell and Shane Andrews played well in the loss. 

The second game on Sunday saw Tyson Dowdy catch a touchdown from Max Pirozhkov as Deerfield Tavern tied Gill Woodworking, 6-6. Adam Bastarache ran in a touchdown for Gill. Kyle Laffrey and Frank Stumpo each had two sacks for Tavern while Zach French and Andrew Straughn each had a sick for Gill. 

To close out the day Mac Rodgers tossed five touchdowns in Amherst Office Park’s 48-0- triumph over Enterprise. 

Shane Robles caught two touchdowns and returned an interception for a touchdown, Jake Sak caught a touchdown and brought a pick back to the house while Sam Tillona and Jaden Whiting-Martinez also hauled in touchdowns in the win. Will Irene and Christopher Charles played well in the loss.

Franklin County Bulldogs

Bryce Zraunig scored a pair of touchdowns while Xavier Woodard led the defensive charge and JJ Bones blocked well up front to lead the Franklin County Junior Bulldogs to a 14-12 win over Ludlow on Sunday. 

Golf

United Church of Bernardston

The United Church of Bernardston held its 17th annual golf tournament over the weekend, with the team of Paul Barnard, Bobby Betsold, Jeff Jackman and Don Mailloux taking first with a score of 58. 

The foursome of Henry Argueta, Paolo Matti, Luis Argueta and Eric Cardoza tied with Justin Begin, Shane Foster, Brian Deane and Brad Letourneau for second with scores of 60. 

Jeff Blake won closest to the pin (eight feet, two inches), Tim Parker won closest to the line, Mike Frydryk won longest male drive and Kim Hawkins had the longest female drive.
