A summer of racing has flown by on the high banks of Monadnock Speedway.
Saturday marks the season finale, as several track championships have yet to be decided. Franklin County drivers are in the mix for three titles. Turners Falls’ J.D. Stockwell holds a two-point edge in the Pure Stock standings after his fourth win of the season last Saturday. Justin Littlewood of Orange leads his brother Cole by two in the Late Model Sportsman race after Cole was disqualified last week for a technical infraction. Deerfield’s Ben Byrne trails Hatfield’s Tyler Leary by eight points heading into the final 125-lap NHSTRA Modified event.
Stockwell passed Chris Davis, with whom he was tied in the points, on lap 15 of the 25-lap Pure Stock event and held on for the checkers. Stockwell’s good friend Zach Zilinski of Gill placed fourth and is currently third in points.
Craig Smith edged Ricky Bly for the win in the Late Model Sportsman 50-lapper after Cole Littlewood was relegated to last place (16th). Justin Littlewood finished 10th.
Byrne finished fifth in a stacked field of NHSTRA Modifieds, with Granby’s Nate Wenzel taking home the trophy. Brian Robie, one of New Hampshire’s top Modified drivers, finished second as he did some scout work ahead of this Saturday’s Whitcomb 5 finale, which will also yield a stout field.
Gordon Farnum secured the Mini Stocks title with yet another victory. Aaliyah Stacy won her second straight Young Guns race, and Steve Miller prevailed in the Six Shooters event.
Saturday’s season finale begins at 2 p.m. and will have fan interaction activities such as big-wheel races for the kids and spectator races for the adults to drive their own cars on the track. A fireworks display will follow.
